His Honor the Superintendent directs the publication of the following documents and observations, taken at the Dunstan Gorge, which is about 90 miles distant from Dunedin, in a straight line, and about 500 feet above the level of the sea.

Sir—I have the honor to enclose a series of Meteorological Observations, for the months of July and August last, taken in the Dunstan Gorge by Mr. James Hacket, Manager of the Pioneer Sluicing Claim, and placed at my disposal for publication.
