PROCLAMATION,
Declaring a certain portion of the Province of Otago to be an Infected District, under the "Diseased Cattle Act, 1861."

By the Honorable JOHN HYDE HARRIS, Superintendent of the said Province.

WHEREAS by virtue and in exercise of the powers delegated to and vested in me in that behalf, I, John Hyde Harris, Superintendent of the Province of Otago, did, by Proclamation in the Otago Provincial Government Gazette, dated the first day of September last, proclaim and declare a certain District, or portion of the said Province, in the said Proclamation particularly described, to be an Infected District within the meaning and for the purposes of the "Diseased Cattle Act, 1861:" And whereas it is expedient to extend the limits of the said Infected District, and to include within the boundaries thereof that portion of the said Province as lies between the "Beaumont" Burn and "Talla" Burn: And whereas by a Proclamation issued by me on the twenty-sixth day of February last, I did make, publish, and proclaim certain Regulations for the destruction of Diseased Cattle within certain Districts therein mentioned, and for prohibiting the removal of Cattle out of the Districts therein mentioned: And whereas it is expedient that similar Regulations should be in force in and be applicable to the whole of the said District, the limits whereof are hereby extended;--Now therefore I, John Hyde Harris, Superintendent as aforesaid, by virtue and in exercise of the powers delegated to and vested in me in this behalf, do hereby Proclaim and Declare, that from and after the day of the date hereof, and until further notice, so much of the said Province of Otago which lies between the "Beaumont" Burn and "Talla" Burn, shall form part of, and be included within, the said Infected District proclaimed by me on the said first day of September last; and I do Proclaim and Declare that from and after the date hereof, the limits and boundaries hereinafter described shall be the limits and boundaries of the said Infected District, as extended hereby, and shall include the territory hereinafter mentioned, that is to say,—All that area within the Province of Otago, bounded towards the north by the Province of Canterbury, from Awarua Bay to the eastern shore of the Wanaka Lake, thence by the said eastern shore of the Wanaka Lake and the Clutha River to the Dunstan Mountains, thence by the Dunstan Mountains to Mount Saint Bathan’s, thence by the Hawkdun Mountains, the Kakanui Mountains, and the Horse Ranges, to the Ocean; thence towards the east by the Ocean to the Taieri River, thence by the Taieri River, the Waipori Lake and River, and a line in a north-westerly direction to the source of the "Talla" Burn, thence by "Talla" Burn to the Clutha River, thence by a line to the summit of the Tapanui Range, thence to Rankle Burn at its source, and by Rankle Burn, the Pomahaka, and Waipahi Rivers, to the southern boundary line of Run numbered 167, thence by the said southern boundary line to the Waikaka stream, and by the Waikaka Stream to the Mataura River, and by the Mataura River and the northern boundary line of the Province of Southland to the Manipori Lake, and by the Waiau River to the Ocean, and thence towards the south and west by the Ocean to Awarua Bay, the starting point.

And by virtue of the powers in me vested in this behalf, I do further Proclaim and Declare that the Regulations made, published, and proclaimed in a Proclamation dated the twenty-sixth day of February last, for the destruction of Cattle diseased with Pleuro-pneumonia in the Infected Districts described in the said last mentioned Proclamation, and for prohibiting the removal of Cattle therefrom, and for preventing the further spread of the said disease, shall be in full force and effect in that part or portion of the Province of Otago hereinbefore proclaimed to be included within the Infected District proclaimed on the said first day of September last; and the said Regulations, as proclaimed and published as aforesaid, I do hereby make, publish, and proclaim to be Regulations for the destruction of Cattle diseased with Pleuro-pneumonia within that portion of the Province hereinbefore proclaimed to be included within the said last mentioned Infected District.
