Waihola Road District Divided; and Waihola East, Waihola West, and Clarendon Road Districts Formed.

PROCLAMATION

By the Honorable John Hyde Harris, Superintendent of the Province of Otago.

WHEREAS by an Ordinance passed by the Superintendent and Provincial Council of the Province of Otago, intituled the “Roads Ordinance Amendment Ordinance, 1862,” it is among other things enacted in the 12th section thereof, that for the purposes of the said Ordinance, the said Province, except as is therein excepted, may from time to time be divided into districts; and until otherwise provided, pursuant to the provisions of the said Ordinance, there shall be twenty-five districts, which shall be named and bounded as described in the Schedule to the said Ordinance annexed; and it is also in the said 12th section provided that it shall be lawful for the Superintendent, with the advice and consent of the General Road Board, from time to time, to alter, vary, diminish, or enlarge the boundaries of any or all of such districts, and to increase the number of districts, by forming and naming new districts, or by dividing any district into two or more districts.

And whereas, in the said Schedule, the Waihola district therein named is described as comprising all that area bounded on the north-east by the West Taieri District; on the south-east by the Watershed of the ranges running from the Taieri Ferry to Gorge Hill; on the south-west by the Watershed of the ranges running from Gorge Hill, Horse Shoe Bush Hill, to the boundary of the Hundreds: And whereas it is expedient to divide the said Waihola District into three Road Districts, to be called respectively the Waihola East, Waihola West, and the Clarendon Road Districts.

Now therefore, I, John Hyde Harris, Superintendent of the said Province, with the advice and consent of the Otago General Road Board, do hereby proclaim and declare that the said Waihola Road District shall henceforth be divided into three Road Districts, the first to be named the Waihola East Road District, the second to be named the Waihola West Road District, and the third to be named the Clarendon Road District; and that the said three Road Districts shall respectively be bounded as and comprise the territory hereinafter described, that is to say—

The Waihola East Road District shall comprise all that area bounded towards the north by the Maungatua Road District; towards the south-east by the Watershed of the ranges and a road line from Taieri Ferry to section numbered 17, block II, Waihola Survey District, thence by a line in a southerly direction to the road line dividing the Toko Mairiro and Waihola Survey Districts; towards the south-west by the said road line, and towards the north-west by the main south road line as far as the Waihola Lake, thence along the shores of that lake, and round the northern boundary of block XVK, Waihola Survey District, to the Maungatua Road District.

The Waihola West Road District shall comprise all that area bounded towards the west by the leading range to the interior from Horse Shoe Bush; towards the north by a line due east over Trig. Station M, Clarendon Survey District, thence by a road line to section numbered 1, block XVII, Waihola Survey District, thence by that section, and section numbered 2, block XV, to Waihola Lake; thence by a line crossing the lake to the south corner of section numbered 5, block XXII, Waihola Survey District; towards the south-east by the Waihola East Road District; towards the south-west by that road line which forms the south-western boundary of block I, Waihola Survey District, thence along the north-western boundary of the said block I, to the leading range to the interior.

The Clarendon Road District shall comprise all that area bounded towards the north-west by the boundary of the Hundreds; towards the north-east by the Maungatua Road District; towards the south-east by the Maungatua and Waihola East Road Districts.
