ORDER IN COUNCIL.
CATTLE BRANDING DISTRICT APPOINTED

At the Superintendent’s Office, at Dunedin, on the fifth day of July, 1864.
Present:
His Honor the Superintendent in Council.
WHEREAS by an Ordinance of the Provincial Council of Otago, intituled “The Cattle Branding Ordinance, 1862,” it is enacted that it shall be lawful for the Superintendent of the Province of Otago, with the advice and consent of the Executive Council from time to time, to constitute and establish districts in the said Province for the purposes of the said Ordinance, and to extend or contract the limits of such districts or abolish such districts and constitute and establish other districts in lieu thereof: Now, therefore, His Honor the Superintendent of Otago by and with the advice of the Executive Council and in exercise of the above power, doth by this present order constitute and establish the Province of Otago to be a district under the several provisions of the said recited Ordinance.

HIS Honor the Superintendent has been pleased to appoint Mr. John Torry Douglas to be Registrar of Brands for the District of Otago as described in the Order in Council of this date.

HIS Honor the Superintendent directs it to be notified for the information of those whom it may concern, that Mr. John Torry Douglas, having been appointed Registrar of Brands for the District of Otago, is ready to proceed to the discharge of the duties of his office at the Provincial Treasury, Dunedin. The attention of every Owner of Cattle within the Province is particularly requested to clauses 4, 6, 7, 10, and 15 of the Branding Ordinance.

HIS Honor the Superintendent has been pleased to appoint the undermentioned Members of the Police Force of Otago, at present Inspectors of Slaughter-houses and of cattle intended for slaughter, to be Deputy Registrars of Brands for the District of Otago, as described in the Order in Council of this date, for the purpose of carrying out the provisions of the 11th and 12th sections of the “Branding Ordinance, 1862,” viz:

SOUTHERN STEAM COASTAL SERVICE,
PROVINCE OF OTAGO.
TENDERS will be received at the Provincial Secretary’s Office, Dunedin, until noon of Friday, 29th July, 1864, from parties willing to run a Steamer between Dunedin and Molyneux Township, and Waikawa Harbour, till 31st December, 1863.
Tenders must describe the Steamer offered for the service, particularly her sleeping accommodation for Cabin and Steerage Passengers.
The days and hours of sailing, and all details will, from time to time, be subject to the approval of the Provincial Government.
Weather permitting, two trips per week must be made to the Molyneux, and a monthly trip to the Waikawa.
Rates to and from the Molyneux not to exceed the following:
Coal, 20s. per ton.
Goods, 30s., to be taken from ship’s tackle at Molyneux.
Wool, 12s. 6d. per bale, to be brought alongside.
Grain, 6d. per bushel.
Passage—Salon, 50s., Steerage, 30s.
Rates to and from Waikawa not to exceed the following:
Goods, 40s. per ton, to be taken from ship’s tackle at Waikawa.
Wool, 15s. per bale, to be brought alongside.
Timber, 40s. per ton.
Passage—Saloon, 60s., Steerage, 40s.
Meals to be provided for passengers by the steamer free of charge.
A Steamer from 100 to 150 tons, horse-power 60 to 100, draft of water 5 feet, would suit the trade.
The Government will not be in any way bound to accept the lowest or any of the tenders.
