PROCLAMATION.
Appointing a Deputy Superintendent.
By the Honorable John Hyde Harris,
Superintendent of the Province of Otago.
WHEREAS, by an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand, intituled the "Superintendents Deputy Act, 1856," it is among other things enacted that it shall be lawful for the Superintendent of any Province by Proclamation, to be published in the Government Gazette of such Province, to appoint such person as he may think fit, being a Registered Elector of such Province, to be his deputy, and as such to perform and exercise all the acts and powers (except such powers as are conferred by the Constitution Act, 15 and 16 Vict., c. 72) which may be executed and performed by such Superintendent; and the acts of such Deputy Superintendent, so far as authorised by said Proclamation, shall be as effectual in all respects as if performed by the Superintendent himself: And whereas I am about to be absent from the Province of Otago, and it is therefore necessary that I should appoint a Registered Elector of the said Province to be my Deputy to act during my absence, as provided by the said recited Act: Now, therefore, I, John Hyde Harris, Esquire, Superintendent of the said Province, do hereby proclaim and declare that I have appointed and do hereby appoint
James Paterson, Esq.,
a Registered Elector of the Province of Otago, to be my Deputy, and as such to perform and exercise during my absence from the said Province all the acts and powers (except such powers as are conferred by the Constitution Act, 15 and 16 Vic., c. 72) which may be exercised and performed by me.
Given under my hand, and issued under the Public Seal of the Province of Otago at Dunedin, this twenty-third day of June, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-four.

Dunedin Sanitary Commission.
To all to whom these presents shall come, Greeting:
WHEREAS, it is expedient that a Commission should be appointed to inquire into the present state of the Sewerage and Drainage of the City of Dunedin, and generally into the Sanitary Condition of the said City: Now, therefore, I, John Hyde Harris, Esquire, Superintendent of the Province of Otago, do hereby nominate and appoint
James Hector, Esq., M.D., F.G.S.
John Turnbull Thomson, Esq., CE., F.G.S.
Edward Hulme, Esq., M.D.
The Rev. Donald M. Stuart
Alfred Eccles, Esq., F.R.C.S., England
Frederick Hall Richardson, Esq., M.R.C.S.
to be Commissioners to inquire into and report upon the existing state of the Drainage and Sewerage of the City of Dunedin in the said Province, and the Sanitary Condition of the said City, and the best and most available means for improving the same.
