Notices, the insertion of which in the Provincial Gazettes is desired, the words "Provincial Gazettes," and the General Government will be obliged if the various Provincial Governments will, when such words are added, insert such Notices accordingly, without special request by circular as heretofore.

Appointment of Postmasters.

General Post Office,

In virtue of the powers delegated to me by His Excellency the Governor, the following appointments have been made in the Service of the Colony.


Otago.

Alexander McLean to be Postmaster at North Taieri, from the 1st October, 1863.

Albert Webster, to be Postmaster at Arthur’s Point, from the 19th September, 1863.

Henry W. Pennycook, to be Postmaster at Maori Point, from the 19th September, 1863.

George Carr Chapman, to be Postmaster at Waikouaiti, from the 1st September, 1863.

James Swanson, to be Postmaster at Black’s Diggings, from the 1st October, 1863.

Andrew Chapman, to be Postmaster at Kaitangata, from the 15th September, 1863.

George Crichton Tait, to be Postmaster at Tokomairiro, from the 16th August, 1863.

Robert Christie, to be Postmaster at Puarua, from the 11th October, 1863.

George Wallbranche Payne, to be Postmaster at Linburn, from the 9th October, 1863.

Post Offices at Port Chalmers and Waikouaiti, in the Province of Otago, to be Money Order Offices, for the issue and payment of Money Orders, from the 1st December, 1863.

REGULÆ GENERALES.

11th November, 1863.

By virtue of the powers vested in us by Law, we, the Judges of the Supreme Court of New Zealand, do hereby order that the following Rules of Practice shall be in force on and after the 1st day of December, 1863.

Rules for Inrolment of Deeds under the Statute 8 and 4, William IV., c. 74.

1st. Every Registrar of the Supreme Court shall keep a book, to be entitled "The Deeds Inrolment Book," for the Inrolment of Deeds requiring to be Inrolled under the provisions of the Act of the Imperial Parliament, entitled "An Act for the Abolition of Fines and Recoveries, and for the substitution of more simple modes of Assurance."

2nd. The several volumes of the said book, and also the pages of each volume, shall be numbered consecutively, the volumes in Roman, and the pages in Arabic numerals.

3rd. A complete copy of every Deed presented for Inrolment under the Act, and of any plan or plans drawn or indorsed upon such Deed shall be forthwith entered in the said book.

4th. The Registrar, or Deputy-Registrar, shall examine every such entry with the Original Deed, and, as a memorandum of such examination, shall write in the margin of the Roll, opposite the entry of such Deed, the words "Examined with the Original," and shall sign his name under the said words.

5th. Before returning any such Deed to the person presenting the same for Inrolment, the Registrar, or Deputy-Registrar, shall cause to be endorsed thereon, or to be written in the margin thereof, a memorandum in the form subjoined to these Rules, stating the place at which, and the day on which, the said Deed shall have been Inrolled, and referring by their respective numbers to the volume and page of the Roll where the same Deed shall have been entered; and every such memorandum shall be signed by the Registrar, or Deputy-Registrar.

6th. An Index to the Roll shall be kept by every Registrar, wherein shall be entered the christian names and surnames of all the parties to every such Deed, with
