HIS HONOR THE SUPERINTENDENT directs the publication of the following dispatch from His Honor the Superintendent of Taranaki:—
Circular No. 84.
Superintendent’s Office,
New Plymouth,
7th May, 1863.
SIR,—I have the honor to inform you that a Taranaki Native named Te Meihi, or Big Jack (large boned, formerly a whaler, speaks bad English), left this overland, two or three weeks ago, and is reported to have gone South with several hundred pounds to purchase Powder, Caps, Guns, &c.
I would suggest for your consideration the desirability of steps being taken to prevent any breach of the Arms Act in your Province by Te Meihi or any other Native.
I have the honor, &c.,
(Signed) "CHARLES BROWN,"
Superintendent.
It is requested that all persons concerned in the Importation, Sale and other Disposition of Arms, Gunpowder, and War-like Stores, will take every precaution to prevent a breach of the above Act.
