THE Contract for Carting Metal on the West Taieri Road not having been taken up by Thomas Robertson, fresh Tenders will be received at the office of the Provincial Secretary, until 12 noon on Tuesday, 17th February, 1863.

For further information apply at the Road Engineer’s office, Dunedin.

NOTICE.

I HEREBY GIVE NOTICE that, under the authority of Clause XIV of the "Customs Regulations Act, 1858," I have appointed all that portion of the Harbor of Otago, situate between Acheron Head and Observation Point, in the said Harbor, to be a station or place for ships arriving at or departing from this Port, to bring-to for the boarding or landing of Officers of the Customs. And I further call attention to Clause XXXV of the above cited Act, which declares that if any ship coming into the Colony shall not come up as quickly to the proper place of mooring or unlading, as the nature of the Port will admit without touching at any other place, and in proceeding to such proper place shall not bring to at the stations appointed by the Commissioner for the boarding of ships by Officers of the Customs, or if the master of any ship, on board of which any officer is stationed, neglect or refuse to provide every such officer sufficient room under the deck in some part of the cabin, or steerage, or passenger deck, for his bed or hammock, the master of such vessel shall forfeit the sum of twenty pounds.

NOTICE.

To Masters and Owners of Ballast Lighters.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that all vessels carrying Ballast, not being marked to show its tonnage, as required under the 32nd clause of the Harbour Regulations, after the 9th day of March next, the master or owner of the same shall be prosecuted as the law directs.

Arrangements have been made for the proper weighing in and marking vessels. Apply at the Harbour Office, Port Chalmers.

For the information of all whom it may concern is subjoined the clause of the Harbour Regulations above referred to.

  1. All vessels carrying ballast for shipping shall be decked, and not less than twelve tons burthen, and shall have the stem and stern post of such vessel marked with a plate of iron in inches, shewing its tonnage, according to the draught of water when laden, such marks and corresponding draughts of water to be endorsed upon their license, which is to be produced when asked for, under a penalty not exceeding ten pounds.
