NOTICE

Superintendent’s Office,
Dunedin, Dec. 18, 1861.

HIS Honor the Superintendent directs it to be notified that he has appointed

John Hickson, Esquire,

to be an Assistant to the Receiver of all Fees for Miners’ Rights, for Business and other Licences, and all Fines, Fees, and other Revenue whatsoever arising out of, and accruing from, the Tuapeka Gold Field, and any future extension thereof. And also to take charge of and safely keep, in the chest or safe to be provided for that purpose, all such bags and parcels of gold as any of the miners or other persons at the said Gold Field may require to be sent to Dunedin; and deliver the same to the Commander of the Escort appointed for the conveyance thereof to Dunedin; to act on and after 1st November next, vice Thomas Windle Parker, appointed R. M.; Otarm.

NOTICE TO MARINERS.

OTAGO, NEW ZEALAND.

Clutha River Signal Station.

NOTICE is hereby given, that on and after the First day of February next, the following signals will be exhibited at the Flagstaff, situated on the South Shore, at the entrance of the river, to steer the vessel by when crossing the Bar, to indicate the state of the tide, and whether prudent or otherwise to approach the Harbour.

In the North Channel, if the vessel be too far to the Northward, the White ball will be hauled out to the yard-arm; and if too far to the Southward, it will be hauled out to the North yard-arm.

In the South channel, if the vessel be too far to the Westward, the ball will be hauled out to the North yard-arm; and if too far to Eastward, it will be hauled out to the South yard-arm.

  • Blue Peter: keep to sea, the Bar is not fit to take.
  • Red Flag: take the Bar, there is no danger.
  • Blue do., with White St. Andrew’s Cross: ebb tide, and the Bar not fit to take.
  • White do., half-mast high; first quarter flood.
  • Do. do. at the mast-head; second do. do.
  • Red do., half-mast high; third do.
  • Do. do. at the mast-head; last do. do.
  • White do. at the North yard-arm; North channel is open.
  • Do. do. at the South yard-arm; South channel is open.

Masters of vessels are particularly cautioned not to take the Bar during any other state of the tide than the last quarter flood.

PUBLICANS’ LICENSES.

PARTIES are hereby informed, in future applications for Bush Licences to sell Spirituous Liquors, and applications under the Licensing Ordinance, 1861, received on or before the 15th of the month will be published immediately thereafter, and will be taken into consideration on the 1st Tuesday of the month following.

Applicants for Bush Licences, or Wine and Beer Licences, should state what accommodation they have for travellers, and give a sketch of the building for which the license is asked.

The application should be supported by respectable inhabitants (householders) not in any way connected with the traffic. No private interview will be granted to the applicant or his agent in support of any application.

The Bottle License includes the Wholesale License.

Wholesale Licenses are granted without a written application every Wednesday.
