ary 1861 :—

Oamaru—Charles Trail
North Taieri—Alexander Gardner
East Taieri—John Hislop
Tokomairiro—Alexander Ayson
Warepa—William Watkin Waite
Invercargill—Matthew Price
Riverton—Benjamin Bailey.

Until the first of May next, the arrange-
ments with respect to the Districts of
Dunedin, Waitangi, Taieri, and Invercar-
gill, as those Districts are described in a
Proclamation bearing date the 6th July
1859; and the appointments of Registrars
to those Districts respectively, as notified
in the Government Gazette, No. 21, 6th
July 1859, will continue in force.

THE following Ordinance, passed by the
Superintendent and Provincial Coun-
cil of Otago, intituled

"Appropriation Ordinance, 1860 and 1861,"
having been laid before the Governor, His
Excellency has been pleased to leave the
same to its operation.

BROWNE, Companion of the Most
Honorable Order of the Bath, Go-
vernor and Commander-in-Chief in
and over Her Majesty's Colony of
New Zealand and its Dependencies,
and Vice-Admiral of the same, &c.,
&c., &c.

TO ALL TO WHOM THESE PRESENTS SHALL
COME GREETING :—

WHEREAS it was enacted by the "New
Zealand Constitution Act" that at any
time during the continuance of the office of
any Superintendent of a Province, it should
be lawful for Her Majesty to remove him from
such office on receiving an address signed by
the majority of the Members of the Provincial
Council of such Province praying for such
removal : and whereas it was by the said Act
further provided that it should be lawful for
Her Majesty, by Letters Patent issued under
the Great Seal of the United Kingdom, or by
Instructions under Her Majesty's Signet and
Sign Manual, or signified through one of Her
Majesty's Principal Secretaries of State, to
delegate to the Governor any of the powers
thereinbefore secured to Her Majesty respect-
ing (amongst other things) the removal of
Superintendents of Provinces : and whereas

by instructions under Her Royal Signet and
Sign Manual, dated at Windsor the 14th day
of November 1857, Her Majesty did delegate
to me, the said Thomas Gore Browne, the
Governor of New Zealand, (amongst others)
the before recited power for the removal of
Superintendents of Provinces:

And whereas in and by an address, dated
the nineteenth day of December last, and re-
ceived by me on the first day of January last,
and signed by the majority of the Members
of the Provincial Council of the Province of
Otago, such Members requested me to remove

JAMES MACANDREW, ESQ.,
the Superintendent of the said Province, from
such office.

Now, therefore, I, THOMAS GORE BROWNE,
the Governor of New Zealand, in exercise of
the power and authority for this purpose
vested in me, do hereby remove the said

JAMES MACANDREW
from the office of Superintendent of the Pro-
vince of Otago.

In witness whereof, I have hereunto
signed my name at the Government
House, at Auckland, and have caused
the Seal of the Colony of New Zea-
land to be hereunto affixed, this sixth
day of March 1861.

A PROCLAMATION
Declaring Carisbrook House, Dunedin, not to
be a Public Gaol.

By His Excellency Colonel THOMAS GORE
BROWNE, Companion of the Most
Honorable Order of the Bath, Go-
vernor and Commander-in-Chief in
and over Her Majesty's Colony of
New Zealand and its Dependencies,
and Vice-Admiral of the same, &c.,
&c., &c.

WHEREAS power is vested in the Go-
vernor of New Zealand to declare
what House, Building, Enclosure, or Place,
shall be deemed to be a public Gaol: And
whereas James Macandrew, Esq., the Super-
intendent of the Province of Otago, has de-
clared Carisbrook House to be one of the
Public Gaols of the Colony of New Zealand,
until proper provision be made otherwise in
that behalf:

Now, therefore, I, the Governor of New
Zealand, do hereby declare that Carisbrook
House shall not be a Public Gaol : And this
Proclamation shall be in force and take effect
on and after the 22nd March, instant.

Given under my hand, at the Govern-
ment House, at Auckland, and issued
under the Seal of the Colony of New
Zealand, this sixth day of March, in
the year of Our Lord, one thousand
eight hundred and sixty-one.
