PROCLAMATION

By His Honor William Cargill, Esquire, Superintendent of the Province of Otago.

WHEREAS by an Ordinance passed by the Superintendent and Provincial Council of the Province of Otago, intituled, the “Roads Ordinance, 1856,” it is among other things enacted, Section 2, that it shall be lawful for the Superintendent, with the advice and consent of the General Board of Road Trustees, from time to time, by proclamation in the Government Gazette, to alter, vary, diminish, or enlarge, the boundaries of any or all of the Districts named in the Schedule to the said Ordinance, and to increase the number of Districts by forming and naming new Districts. And whereas it is necessary to alter the boundary of the District No. 6 of the said Schedule, called “East Taieri Road District,” and to form new Districts, named and bounded as after-mentioned:

Now THEREFORE I, the said Superintendent, with the advice and consent of the General Board of Road Trustees, do hereby proclaim and declare that the boundary of the said East Taieri District shall henceforth be as hereinafter set forth; and that there shall be a new District, to be named “Saddle Hill District,” and to be bounded as after-mentioned:

EAST TAIERI DISTRICT.

This District comprises the entire tract of country to the West and South-west of the Green Island Bush and Wakari Districts, commencing at the South-western extremity of Section No. 66 Wakari District, and taken from thence in a straight line running through the Trigonometrical Station on Flagstaff (Wakari Hills) to the Boundary of the Otago Block, then along the Boundary of the Block to the Taieri River; from thence, making that River the Boundary, to the Native Reserve; thence by the Saddle Hill Road District to Abbot’s Creek, and from this point, keeping the Boundaries of Green Island and Wakari Districts, to No. 66 Wakari.

SADDLE HILL DISTRICT

Comprises that tract of country bound on the North by the Main Road, Saddle Hill, Serogge’s Hill, and Ged Knowe Ranges to the Taieri Native Reserve; East, by Abbot’s Creek and Kaikorai Stream; South, by the Ocean; West, by Taieri Native Reserve.

Given under my hand, and issued under the Public Seal of the Province of Otago, at Government House, Dunedin, this twenty-fifth day of January, One Thousand Eight Hundred and Fifty-nine.
