ADDRESS of His Honor the SUPERINTENDENT at proroguing the Provincial Council, 18th March 1856.
To the Provincial Council.
GENTLEMEN,—I have to thank you, now that you have brought the labours of this session to an end, for the full attendance of the members, and for the close application that has marked your proceedings.
I also thank you for the supplies which you have voted, and have to assure you that they will be administered with every attention to economy.
I regret that you have been detained longer from your homes than was anticipated, and have pleasure in now relieving you from your duties.
I now prorogue the Provincial Council till Wednesday the 5th day of November next, at 12 o’clock noon, and it stands prorogued accordingly.

HIS HONOR THE SUPERINTENDENT directs it to be notified that he has, on behalf of the Governor, assented to the following Bills, passed in March current by the Provincial Council of the Province of Otago:
An Ordinance to amend the law relative to Fences.
An Ordinance to amend an Ordinance to Establish and Regulate Ferries.
An Ordinance to provide the means of Education within the Province of Otago.
An Ordinance to amend the Laws relating to Public Roads within the Province of Otago, and to regulate the Management thereof.
An Ordinance to authorise the raising of Money by the Sale of Debentures for certain public purposes within the Province of Otago.
An Ordinance for the punishment of Persons not Members of the Provincial Council, disturbing the proceedings thereof.
An Ordinance to Appropriate the Revenue for the year ending 30th September 1856, and to authorise the Provincial Treasurer to take credit for certain sums paid in course of, but not included, in the Appropriation Ordinance for the year ending 30th September 1855.
And that he has reserved the Bill to repeal the Ordinance Session 2, No. 1, and more effectually to regulate the election of Superintendent and Members of the Provincial Council, for the signification of the Governor’s pleasure thereon.
