SUPPLEMENTARY APPROPRIATION ORDINANCE.

In the Nineteenth Year of the Reign of Her Majesty Queen Victoria.

Session II. No. 14.

Analysis.

Preamble.

  1. The following Sums to be appropriated:—
    (1.) £300 for Survey Department.
    (2.) £100 for Labour contingently.
    (3.) £100 for expense of search for Dr. Shmidt.

  2. Treasurer to pay moneys on warrant of the Superintendent.


BILL to Appropriate certain Sums for Surveys and Labour.

WHEREAS it is deemed expedient to make provision out of the Revenue for the purposes hereinafter specified,

BE IT THEREFORE ENACTED by the Superintendent of the Province of Otago, with the advice and consent of the Provincial Council thereof, as follows:—

  1. Out of the Revenue of the said Province there shall and may be issued and paid, in manner hereinafter enacted, any sum or sums of money not exceeding the sums hereinafter mentioned, for the following respective purposes, that is to say,—

    1. Towards the expense of the maintenance of the Survey Department...

    2. For the payment of the wages of Immigrants from Australia, should there be so large an amount of labour supplied by such Immigration as to render it expedient to employ part of it upon the public roads...

    3. For defraying the expense of searching for Dr. Shmidt and his servant, supposed to have perished on a part of the coast on their way from the South to the Clutha, any sum not exceeding...

  2. The Provincial Treasurer shall issue and pay from time to time any sum or sums of money for the purposes hereinbefore mentioned, not exceeding in whole the sums respectively above specified, to such persons, and in such portions, as the Superintendent shall, by warrant or warrants signed by him, from time to time direct; and such Treasurer shall in his account be allowed credit for all sums paid by him in pursuance of such warrant or warrants, and the receipt of the person to whom such sums shall have been so paid shall be to him a full discharge for the sum or sums for which such receipt
