IMMEDIATE OCCUPATION OF LAND.
THE Provincial Council, upon the 20th day of March, 1855, having adopted the following resolutions, and I, the Superintendent of the Province, having assented to the same, they are hereby published for general information.
And I hereby give notice that Applications for Land, according to printed forms, to be supplied by the Provincial Surveyor, will be received by him at the Provincial Government House, Dunedin, on and after Wednesday, the 25th day of April, 1855, between the hours of 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
And I further give notice that the Notice published in the Otago Witness, and in the Provincial Government Gazette, of dates 25th and 28th November, 1854, respectively, being rescinded, and the applications thereunder having thereby lapsed, parties will require to make application anew, in accordance with the subjoined resolutions.

Resolutions adopted by the Provincial Council upon 20th March, 1855, and assented to of same date by the Superintendent.
No. 1. Pending the adjustment of new Regulations for the disposal of the Waste Lands of the Crown, it is expedient that the existing Terms of Purchase be administered under the following modifications:
"2. Persons desirous of purchasing, but unwilling to pay the price exigible under the present Terms of Purchase for Waste Land, shall lodge applications, in the form annexed, with the Provincial Surveyor.
"3. Within six days after lodging the Application, the Applicant shall deposit in the hands of the Provincial Treasurer, 10s. per acre, and grant obligation in the form annexed.
"4. Upon such deposit being made, and obligation granted, a certificate to be issued, authorising the party to enter into possession upon the condition specified in said obligation.
"5. Thereupon the land applied for shall be held to be disposed of; and no longer open to selection under the existing terms of Purchase.
"6. In every place where there is any considerable extent of open land available for occupation and cultivation, with only a small extent of bush land, not more than one-tenth part of any land sold shall be bush land.
"7. Should any case emerge in the administration of the existing Terms of Purchase along with the foregoing modifications thereof, requiring the application of any special remedy, the Provincial Council pledges itself to concur with the Superintendent in obtaining from the General Legislature and Government an Act of Indemnity, or concerting such other remedial measures as may be advisable."
