Land Transport Rules
In accordance with section 161(2) of the Land Transport Act 1998, the NZ Transport Agency ("Transport Agency") on behalf of the Minister of Transport, gives notice of the Minister’s intention to make a Rule that applies to the setting of speed limits. The draft Land Transport Rule: Setting of Speed Limits 2017 ("draft Rule") is now available for public comment.
The proposed Rule, which would revoke and replace the Land Transport Rule: Setting of Speed Limits 2003, revises and modernises the requirements relating to the setting of speed limits by road controlling authorities, allows for the setting of 110km/h speed limits on certain high-quality roads, and sets out the functions and powers of the Transport Agency in respect of the setting of speed limits.
A copy of the draft Rule and accompanying overview material may be obtained by calling the Transport Agency’s Contact Centre on freephone 0800 699 000 and is available, together with Questions and Answers, on the Transport Agency’s website at www.nzta.govt.nz/setting-of-speed-limits-rule.
The consultation material is also available for viewing at the Transport Agency’s National Office and regional offices. Groups and individuals who have registered their interest have been advised of the availability of the draft Rule for comment.
Submissions close at 5.00pm on Friday 16 June 2017.
