  • 1 from Maritime Rule 40D.64(1), Appendix 2, 2.3(a) - Design, Construction and Equipment - Fishing ships - Fire-fighting appliances - Ships of less than 24 metres in length that operate in any operating limits.

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 40D.68(1) - Design, Construction and Equipment - Fishing ships - Radiocommunications equipment - Owner and master of ship must ensure radiocommunications equipment provided in accordance with the requirements Appendix 3.

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 40D.68(2) - Design, Construction and Equipment - Fishing ships - Radiocommunications - Ships proceeding beyond offshore limits must be provided with a radar transponder specified in Appendix 3.

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 45.5(1) - Navigational equipment - All New Zealand ships - Sextant, chronometer, and binoculars - Ships proceeding beyond unlimited area must be provided with at least one sextant.

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 45.5(2) - Navigational equipment - All New Zealand ships - Sextant, chronometer, and binoculars - Ships proceeding beyond unlimited area must be provided with at least one chronometer.

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 50.9(1) - Medical Stores - Ship operating in the unlimited area - Medical stores - Scale 4 - Rule 50.9 applies to any ship operating in the unlimited area.

Notice of Exemption From Maritime Rules

Pursuant to section 47(3) of the Maritime Transport Act 1994, the Director of Maritime New Zealand hereby notifies the granting, during the period 18 August 2017 to 18 September 2017 inclusive, of the following exemptions:

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 31.42(c) - Crewing and Watchkeeping - SOLAS and STCW ships - Minimum watchkeeping and special crewing requirements - Ships operating within coastal and offshore limits.

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 31.43(1)(a) - Crewing and Watchkeeping - SOLAS and STCW ships - Unlimited area - Requirements for ships operating in unlimited areas to carry at least navigational watchkeepers as specified.

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 31.44 - Crewing and Watchkeeping - SOLAS and STCW ships - Coastal and offshore limits - Ships operating beyond restricted limits but within coastal limits or offshore limits must carry navigational or engine room watchkeepers.

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 31.82(1) - Crewing and Watchkeeping - Requirement to operate under Minimum Safe Crewing Document for some ships.

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 31.84(2)(a) - Crewing and Watchkeeping - Minimum crewing requirements for other ships - Minimum crew numbers holding certificates or prescribed endorsements.

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 40A.15(1)(a) - Design, Construction and Equipment - Passenger ships which are not SOLAS ships - Subdivision and stability - Ship that is less than 24 metres in length and does not carry cargo - Freeboard measurement requirements in the case of ship with continuous weather deck.

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 40C.12(1)(a) - Design, Construction and Equipment - Non-passenger ships that are not SOLAS ships - Subdivision - Watertight continuous collision bulkhead.

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 49.6(1) - Ships’ Lifting Appliances - Examination of ship's lifting appliances and loose cargo gear by competent person at least once every 12 months.

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 82, Appendix 2, 2.14.4(a) - Commercial Jet Boat Operations - River - Commercial jet boat standards - Fixed fire extinguishing systems capable of discharging into the engine space 1.5 litres, per nozzle, per 1.5 cubic metres of net engine space.
