Notice of Exemption From Maritime Rules

Pursuant to section 47(3) of the Maritime Transport Act 1994, the Director of Maritime New Zealand hereby notifies the granting of the following exemptions on 28 September 2017:

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 31.64(1) – Crewing and Watchkeeping – Other minimum crewing requirements for fishing vessels – Minimum required certificates and minimum number of crew.

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 31.64(2)(a), Table 7 – Crewing and Watchkeeping – Other minimum crewing requirements for fishing vessels – Applicable tables and flow charts in Table 7 – Crewing for fishing vessels – Unlimited area.

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 40D.7(1)(b) – Design, Construction and Equipment – Fishing ships – Design, survey, construction and structural strength – Design – If ship is pre-27 May 2004, ship’s design is approved by surveyor who holds a current Certificate of Survey.

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 40D.9(1)(b) – Design, Construction and Equipment – Fishing ships – Design, survey, construction and structural strength – Ships of 12 metres or more in length – Strength and construction of the hull, superstructures, deckhouses, machinery casings, companionways and any other structures are sufficient to withstand the sea and weather conditions.

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 40D.32B(1) – Design, Construction and Equipment – Fishing ships – Lightning Protection – Lightning conductors must comply with the requirements of Rules 40D.32B(2) to 30D.32B(6).
