Approval of Te Whare Wananga O MUMA Limited as Sponsor of Waatea High Establishment Notice

Pursuant to section 158B of the Education Act 1989, I hereby give the following notice:

  1. I hereby approve Te Whare Wananga O MUMA Limited to be a sponsor of a Partnership School Kura Hourua.

  2. The name of the sponsor’s school is Waatea High.

  3. The sponsor’s school will be located in South Auckland.

  4. Waatea High will be a co-educational and bilingual secondary school.

  5. Education will be given for class levels 9 to 13.

  6. Waatea High is permitted to provide religious instruction to students.

  7. Waatea High will operate with the following aims, purposes and objectives:
    i. to create a student-focused learning environment that serves the unique requirements of each student;
    ii. to develop well-rounded, socially adept and culturally aware students capable of operating across two worlds, te ao Māori and te ao pākehā;
    iii. to achieve a significant impact on each student's engagement and achievement, particularly where their home circumstances place their academic performance at risk;
    iv. to develop students who have a strong sense of self and confidence; and
    v. to develop students who have strong literacy, mathematics and language skills.

  8. This notice shall come into force the day after its publication in the New Zealand Gazette.
