Notice of New and Altered Geographic Names, and Discontinued Crown Protected Area Names, for Ngāti Apa ki te Rā Tō, Ngāti Kuia, and Rangitāne o Wairau Claims Treaty of Waitangi Settlement 2014, Ngāti Kōata, Ngāti Rārua, Ngāti Tama ki Te Tau Ihu, and Te Ātiawa o Te Waka-a-Māui Claims Treaty of Waitangi Settlement 2014 and Ngati Toa Rangatira Treaty of Waitangi Settlement 2014
Pursuant to sections 111 and 115–116 of the Ngāti Apa ki te Rā Tō, Ngāti Kuia, and Rangitāne o Wairau Claims Settlement Act 2014, sections 133 and 142–143 of the Ngāti Kōata, Ngāti Rārua, Ngāti Tama ki Te Tau Ihu, and Te Ātiawa o Te Waka-a-Māui Claims Settlement Act 2014 and sections 98 and 101–102 of the Ngati Toa Rangatira Claims Settlement Act 2014 ("Settlement Acts 2014"), the New Zealand Geographic Board Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa ("Board") hereby gives notice of 26 new and 53 altered geographic names, and six discontinued Crown Protected Area (CPA) names.
Schedule 1 below specifies the details of the 26 new geographic names; their geographic feature types and their descriptions.
Schedule 2 below specifies the details of the 53 altered geographic names; their geographic feature types; their descriptions; and their former names.
Schedule 3 below specifies the details of the six discontinued CPA names; their generic terms; their descriptions; and their former New Zealand Gazettes.
The official new and altered geographic names and discontinued CPA names took effect on 1 August 2014, being the settlement date of the Settlement Acts 2014.
Pursuant to section 117 of the Ngāti Apa ki te Rā Tō, Ngāti Kuia, and Rangitāne o Wairau Claims Settlement Act 2014 and section 144 of the Ngāti Kōata, Ngāti Rārua, Ngāti Tama ki Te Tau Ihu, and Te Ātiawa o Te Waka-a-Māui Claims Settlement Act 2014 and section 103 of the Ngati Toa Rangatira Claims Settlement Act 2014, the Board may in the future agree to alter any official geographic name, as listed in Schedules 1 and 2 below, with the consent of the trustees of the Ngāti Apa ki te Rā Tō Trust, Te Runanga o Ngāti Kuia Trust, Rangitāne o Wairau Settlement Trust, Te Pātaka a Ngāti Kōata, Ngāti Rārua Settlement Trust, Ngāti Tama ki Te Waipounamu Trust, Te Ātiawa o Te Waka-a-Māui Trust and the trustee of Toa Rangatira Trust.
