These discontinued official and recorded geographic names relate to either geographic feature types that the Board does not have naming jurisdiction for, therefore they should not be official names, or for features that no longer exist.
The discontinued official and recorded names may continue to be used, but would no longer be subject to the requirements of the Act, and the future responsibility for their naming, if any, will no longer lie with the Board.
The first column of the Schedule below specifies the discontinued official and recorded geographic names.
The geographic feature types they relate to are set out in the second column of the Schedule.
The former New Zealand Gazette notices they relate to or descriptive details are set out in the third column of the Schedule.

The Board’s final determination on these discontinued official and recorded geographic names took effect on 5 June 2014.

Notice of the Final Determinations on Assigning Official Antarctic Geographic Names
Pursuant to sections 10(1)(a), 21(2) and 25 of the New Zealand Geographic Board (Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa) Act 2008, the New Zealand Geographic Board Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa (“Board”) hereby gives notice of assigning six official Antarctic geographic names.
The official Antarctic geographic names are specified in the first column of the Schedule below.
The geographic feature types that they relate to are set out in the second column of the Schedule.
The descriptions for the names are set out in the third column of the Schedule.
The Board’s final determinations on these official Antarctic geographic names took effect on 7 May 2014.

| Argo Gully | Gully | A prominent valley, between Mount Jason and Goldich Crest on the southern slopes of the Olympus Range just north of the eastern end of Lake Vanda. The valley trends northwest–southeast from the upper slopes of Mount Jason over a distance of 3km to the north-eastern shore of Lake Vanda. 77°31'06"S, 161°38'46"E (mouth of the gully at elevation 163m). NZ Ant50 ME08 Lake Vanda, and USGS ST57-60/5 Taylor Glacier. New name for a feature not formally named, but locally used. |
| Blood Falls | Falls | A bright orange-red, saline, iron-rich area of discharge that is subglacial in origin that emerges at the snout of Taylor Glacier at the western end of Lake Bonney, elevation 246m. 77°43'19"S, 162°16'17"E. NZ Ant50 MF09 Lake Bonney, and USGS ST57-60/6 Ross Island. New name for a feature not formally named, but locally used. |
| Boulder Pavement | Flat | A flat area of boulders approximately 500m wide and 500m long, where the Onyx River fans out and flows slowly westward into Lake Vanda, at elevation 150m. 77°31'23"S, 161°45'20"E. NZ Ant50 ME08 Lake Vanda, and USGS ST57-60/6 Ross Island. New name for a feature not formally named, but locally used. Replaces Onyx Wetland, also a locally used name. |
