Schedule 3—Location

Cycle lanes approved for this trial, which must be marked with cycle symbols and the word "LANE" in accordance with Schedule 2, are located on the following roads controlled by Palmerston North City Council:

(a) Broadway Avenue, from Victoria Avenue to Princess Street;

(b) College Street, from Victoria Avenue to Fitzherbert Avenue;

(c) Victoria Avenue, from Broadway Avenue to College Street.

Shared lanes approved for this trial, which may be marked with the sharrow symbol, are located on the following roads controlled by Palmerston North City Council:

(a) Broadway Avenue, from Princess Street to The Square;

(b) College Street, from Albert Street to Victoria Avenue.

Schedule 4—Period of trial

The trial may begin after the publication of this notice and, unless terminated earlier, must end by 31 December 2014.

Schedule 5—Evaluation

An evaluation and analysis must be undertaken as outlined in the trial application document dated 12 May 2014 received from Palmerston North City Council. The evaluation must include analysis of the following:

(a) Whether cyclists and motorists understand the meaning of different uses of the cycle symbol:

(i) to identify a cycle lane when marked with the word "LANE"; and

(ii) to identify a shared lane when used in the sharrow symbol; and

(b) cyclists’ and motorists’ understanding of the purpose of the sharrow symbol; and

(c) cyclists’ and motorists’ behaviour in lanes marked with the sharrow symbol; and

(d) the costs and benefits of adding the word "LANE" to all existing cycle symbols, which are currently used to identify cycle lanes, thereby enabling the cycle symbol to be used for other cycle safety purposes, such as marking shared lanes.

An evaluation report must be sent to me by 31 January 2015.

Conservation Act 1987

Declaring Land to be Held for Conservation Purposes and Declaration That the Conservation Areas Become a Reserve

Under the Conservation Act 1987, the Director, Conservation Partnerships, South and Eastern South Island Region of the Department of Conservation declares that the land described in the First Schedule is held for conservation purposes and further declares that the land described in the Second Schedule be set apart as a reserve subject to the Reserves Act 1977 and classified as a Government purpose (wildlife sanctuary) reserve subject to the provisions of the latter Act.

Land Declared No Longer Required for Education Purposes

Pursuant to section 70A of the Education Act 1989, and pursuant to an authority delegated to me, I, Peter Gray, Acting Group Manager Service Delivery, Education Infrastructure Service, Ministry of Education, Wellington, hereby give the following notice.

  2. This notice shall come into force on 29 May 2014.
