Land Transport Rule: Setting of Speed Limits 2003
Variable Speed Limit at Rural Intersections Amendment No. 2
Pursuant to clause 6.1 of Land Transport Rule: Setting of Speed Limits 2003, and a delegation from the NZ Transport Agency, I, Glenn Bunting, Network Manager, amend the “Variable Speed Limit at Rural Intersections” notice published in the New Zealand Gazette, 9 August 2012, No. 94, page 2598 (as amended by notice in the New Zealand Gazette, 13 June 2013, No. 74, page 1981), by adding the following intersection descriptions to the table in Schedule 1:

Rural Intersection Active Warning Signs Trial Amendment No. 2
Pursuant to subclause 3.4(1) of Land Transport Rule: Traffic Control Devices 2004, and a delegation from the NZ Transport Agency, I, Glenn Bunting, Network Manager, make the following amendments to the “Rural Intersection Active Warning Signs Trial” notice published in the New Zealand Gazette, 9 August 2012, No. 94, page 2599 (as amended by notice in the New Zealand Gazette, 13 June 2013, No. 74, page 1982):
- Add the following intersection descriptions to the table in Schedule 3 – Locations for trial:

- Delete Schedule 4—Period of trial and replace it with the following Schedule:
“Schedule 4—Period of Trial
A trial may begin after the publication of this notice and, unless terminated earlier, must end by 31 July 2014 for trials at local authority intersections or by 30 November 2014 for trials at state highway intersections.”
- In Schedule 5—Conditions, under the sub-heading Evaluation, replace the date on which the final report is due with “31 March 2015”.

Explanatory Note
The end date of the trials at State highway intersections has been extended to allow a two-year period of evaluation from December 2012, when the trial commenced at the first State highway intersection. The extended period will also allow comparative data to be collected from an additional pair of intersections. The active intersection warning sign and variable speed intersection warning sign will be swapped between the two intersections named in this notice, to assist with the evaluation of the signs.

Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992
Approval of New Codes of Practice for Underground Mines and Tunnels
I, Simon Bridges, Minister of Labour, have approved the following Codes of Practice pursuant to section 20A(3) of the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992:
- Ventilation in underground mines and tunnels; and
- Fire or explosion in underground mines and tunnels.
These Approved Codes of Practice set out a statement of preferred work practices or arrangements for the health and safety of those working within the mining and tunnelling industries.
The Approved Codes of Practice are designed to assist the site senior executive to develop a principal control plan for ventilation, and a principal hazard management plan for fire or explosion, as required by the Health and Safety in Employment (Mining Operations and Quarrying Operations) Regulations 2013.
These new Approved Codes of Practice have been consulted on with industry experts and the relevant union during their development over an 18-month period.
They have not been made available for public consultation as the Minister is satisfied that sufficient consultation has already taken place in respect of the matters in each Approved Code of Practice.
