Land Transport Rules

In accordance with section 161(2) of the Land Transport Act 1998, the NZ Transport Agency, on behalf of the Minister of Transport, gives notice of the Minister’s intention to make Rules that will amend the Land Transport (Driver Licensing) Rule 1999 and the Land Transport (Road User) Rule 2004, and advises that the draft amendment Rules are available for public comment.

Land Transport (Driver Licensing) Amendment Rule (No. 2) 2013

This proposed amendment would allow the holders of driver licences issued by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Korea to convert their licences to an equivalent New Zealand driver licence without further testing.

A copy of the draft amendment Rule and overview may be obtained by calling the NZ Transport Agency Contact Centre on freephone 0800 822 422 or is available on the website at

www.nzta.govt.nz/consultation/licence-recognition-amendment/index.html

Submissions close on 15 March 2013.

Land Transport (Road User) Amendment Rule 2013

The aim of the proposed amendment Rule is to improve the safety of children travelling in vehicles by requiring all children under the age of seven years to use an approved child restraint.

Changes are also proposed to exceptions from using child restraints in certain circumstances.

A copy of the draft amendment Rule and overview may be obtained by calling the NZ Transport Agency Contact Centre on freephone 0800 699 000 or is available, together with "Questions and Answers", on the website at

Submissions close on 3 April 2013.

The consultation documents are also available for viewing at the NZ Transport Agency’s National Office and regional offices.
