Reappointments/appointments of Members to the New Zealand Geographic Board Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa

Notice is hereby given that, pursuant to Schedule 1 of the New Zealand Geographic Board (Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa) Act 2008, I have reappointed

  • Dr Sir Tipene O’Regan, of Christchurch
  • Professor Michael Matthew Roche, of Palmerston North
  • David Jeffrey Barnes, of Dunedin

and appointed

  • Sir Archie Te Atawhai Taiaroa, of Taumarunui
  • Rikirangi Gage, of Opotiki
  • Jennifer Anne Vernon, of Ngaruawahia
  • Basil James Morrison, of Paeroa

as members of the New Zealand Geographic Board Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa for a term of three years commencing on 9 July 2010.

The reappointment of Dr Sir Tipene O’Regan is made on the recommendation of Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu, pursuant to Schedule 1(1)(2)(b) of the said Act.

The reappointment of Professor Michael Matthew Roche is made on the recommendation of the New Zealand Geographical Society Inc, pursuant to Schedule 1(1)(2)(c) of the said Act.

The reappointment of David Jeffrey Barnes is made on the recommendation of the Federated Mountain Clubs of New Zealand Inc, pursuant to Schedule 1(1)(2)(d) of the said Act.

The appointment of Sir Archie Te Atawhai Taiaroa and Rikirangi Gage is made on the recommendation of the Minister of Māori Affairs, pursuant to Schedule 1(1)(2)(a) of the said Act.

The appointment of Jennifer Anne Vernon and Basil James Morrison is made on the recommendation of the Minister for Land Information, pursuant to Schedule 1(1)(2)(f) of the said Act.

Maritime Transport Act 1994

Maritime New Zealand (Functions and Duties) Notice 2010

Pursuant to section 431(2) of the Maritime Transport Act 1994 and sections 112 and 115 of the Crown Entities Act 2004, the Minister of Transport gives the following notice.

Notice

  1. Title—This notice is the Maritime New Zealand (Functions and Duties) Notice 2010.

  2. Commencement—This notice comes into force on 1 August 2010.

  3. Application—This notice applies to Maritime New Zealand (which is continued under section 429 of the Maritime Transport Act 1994).

  4. Interpretation—For the purposes of this Direction, Pacific Islands Region includes the Member States of the Pacific Islands Forum and Tokelau.

  5. Background—Maritime New Zealand and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade have identified maritime safety in the Pacific Islands region as a key area in need of development. Maritime New Zealand intends to establish a Pacific Shipping Safety Advisor to provide advice and support to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. The project is to be funded under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s State Sector Development Partnerships Fund.

  6. Additional functions and duties—Maritime New Zealand is directed to carry out the following additional functions and duties:

    (a) To provide advice and support to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade on maritime issues in the Pacific Islands region; and

    (b) to undertake any duties that may be agreed between Maritime New Zealand and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade for the purpose of performing the function specified in paragraph (a), including providing technical advice, training and specialist maritime assistance to maritime agencies in the Pacific Islands region.

  7. Expiry—This notice expires with the close of 31 December 2013, but may be revoked at any time.
