Pursuant to section 11A of the Judicature Act 1908, His Excellency the Governor-General, in the name and on behalf of Her Majesty The Queen, has been pleased to appoint

an Acting Judge of the High Court for a term of one year, the Commission to take effect on 23 September 2009, a certificate having been signed by the Chief Justice and the Chief High Court Judge that in their opinion it is necessary for the due conduct of the business of the Court that an Acting Judge be appointed.

Education Act 1989

Change in the Range of Class Levels at Wakatipu High School, Queenstown (374)

Pursuant to section 153 of the Education Act 1989, I declare that Wakatipu High School will provide education for only Year 9–15 class levels as from 2011.

The change will be phased in as follows:

From term 1, 2010, Wakatipu High School will provide for Year 8–15; and

From term 1, 2011, Wakatipu High School will provide for Year 9–15.

Notice of Direction to Appoint a Limited Statutory Manager for the Board of Trustees of Hokitika School (3376)

Pursuant to section 78M of the Education Act 1989, I direct the Secretary for Education to appoint a limited statutory manager for the Hokitika School Board of Trustees because of the risks to the operation of the school and the educational performance of the students at the school.

The following functions, powers and duties of the board are to be vested in a limited statutory manager:

• All functions, powers and duties of the board as an employer (whether statutory or otherwise); and
• all functions, powers and duties of the board related to the governance of curriculum, teaching and learning (whether statutory or otherwise).

A limited statutory manager must also advise the board on the following:

• The improvement of relationships between the school and the community including the wider Māori community; and
• any other governance matters which may arise during the intervention.

This notice takes effect the day after the date of publication.
