The term of office of members of the CPIT Council, vacation of office, disclosure of members’ interest and casual vacancies are covered by sections 173–176 of the Education Act 1989 (“the Act”).

Subject to section 173 of the Act, the maximum term for any member, other than the chief executive officer, the student member and co-opted members, shall be three consecutive four-year terms.

The powers of the CPIT Council shall not be affected by vacancy in the membership thereof.

The CPIT Council’s functions, duties and powers are set out in sections 180, 181 and 193 of the Act.

The CPIT Council may pass statutes for the good government and discipline of the institute and may delegate any of its functions or powers (except the power to appoint a chief executive).

The Christchurch Polytechnic Notice 1990 (published in the New Zealand Gazette, 1 November 1990, No. 191, page 4180) is revoked.

Declaring Land to be Held for Conservation Purposes and Declaration That the Area Become a Reserve
Under the Conservation Act 1987, the Conservator for the Bay of Plenty Conservancy of the Department of Conservation declares that the land described in the Schedule is held for conservation purposes and further declares that the conservation area be set apart as a historic reserve subject to the Reserves Act 1977.
