Appointment to the Social Security Appeal Authority

Pursuant to section 12 of the Social Security Act 1964, His Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to appoint

Marilyn Wallace, of Wellington

as chairperson of the Social Security Appeal Authority for three years, commencing on 12 March 2008.

Extension of Approval for Rural Assistance Under Special Needs Grants Programme

Under clauses 18.2 and 18.6 of the Special Needs Grants Programme (“the programme”), as established and approved on 18 December 1998*, under section 124(1)(d) of the Social Security Act 1964, I further extend the approval given on 10 July 2007† (and extended on 18 December 2007‡) for Part 6 of the programme to apply to specified farmers until the close of 30 December 2008.

Explanatory Note

This note is not part of the instrument but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This instrument further extends, until 30 December 2008, the approval originally given on 10 July 2007†, under Part 6 of the Special Needs Grant Programme, for rural assistance payments to be made to eligible farmers whose land-based industries in parts of the East Coast, Hawke’s Bay and Wairarapa areas are affected by drought.

Approval for Rural Assistance Under Special Needs Grants Programme

Under clauses 18.2 and 18.6 of the Special Needs Grants Programme (“the programme”), as established and approved on 18 December 1998* under section 124(1)(d) of the Social Security Act 1964, I give my approval for Part 6 of the programme to apply as follows:

Rural Assistance – Farmers

1. Farmers in the affected areas whose land-based industries are directly affected by drought are eligible to be considered for financial assistance under Part 6 of the programme.

2. In relation to such farmers, Part 6 of the programme applies for the period beginning on 1 April 2008 and ending with the close of 1 March 2009, unless further extended by the Minister.

3. In this approval, affected areas means the territories of the following local authorities:
