Land Transport Act 1998
Land Transport Rules
In accordance with section 161(2) of the Land Transport Act 1998, the NZ Transport Agency, on behalf of the Minister of Transport, gives notice of the Minister’s intention to make a Rule that proposes to amend the Land Transport (Road User) Rule 2004 ("the Road User Rule"), and advises that the draft Land Transport (Road User) Amendment Rule [2009] (Rule 61001/4) is available for public comment.
The proposed amendments to the Road User Rule include prohibiting the use of hand-held mobile phones while driving and other changes aimed at making the use of New Zealand roads safer and more efficient.
A copy of the draft Land Transport (Road User) Amendment Rule [2009], with information about the proposed changes, can be obtained by calling the NZ Transport Agency Contact Centre on freephone 0800 699 000 or by visiting www.nzta.govt.nz/consultation/road-user-amendment/index.html.
The consultation material is also available for viewing at NZ Transport Agency regional offices.
Groups and individuals who have registered their interest have been advised of the availability of the draft amendment Rule.
Submissions on the draft Land Transport (Road User) Amendment Rule [2009] close on 16 October 2008.

Notification of Ordinary Rule
Pursuant to section 161(3) of the Land Transport Act 1998, notification is hereby given of the making of Land Transport Rule: Fuel Consumption Information 2008 (Rule 33020), which provides for the collection of accurate and reliable fuel consumption information for light vehicles entering the New Zealand fleet.
This Rule comes into force on 1 February 2009.
Land Transport Rule: Fuel Consumption Information 2008 is available for inspection free of charge at the National Office of the NZ Transport Agency, Victoria Arcade, 44 Victoria Street, Wellington, and for purchase from late September 2008 at selected bookshops that sell legislation.
A copy of this Rule is also available direct from Wickliffe Limited, PO Box 932, Dunedin or telephone (06) 358 8231.
