The exemption from the provisions of Maritime Rule
31A.7(1)(a) and (c) shall remain in force until:

(a) one or more of the above conditions is not met;
(b) the ship undergoes major alteration or its operating
limits are permanently changed;
(c) the ownership of the ship is changed;
(d) the exemption is revoked by the Director of
Maritime New Zealand; or
(e) the expiry date;
whichever occurs first.
This exemption shall expire on 31 January 2012.

Notice of Exemption From Maritime Rule
31A.7(1)(a) and (c)

I, John Norman Keith Mansell, General Manager Maritime
Operations, Maritime New Zealand, being satisfied that the
granting of this exemption will not breach New Zealand’s
international obligations, and pursuant to section 47(2)(b)(ii),
47(2)(b)(iii) and section 47(2)(c) of the Maritime Transport
Act 1994, acting under delegated authority hereby give notice
as follows:

The owner and master of M/V Taiko (IMO 8221703) is
exempt from the requirement in Rule 31A.7(1)(a) and (c)
of Part 31A of the Maritime Rules in relation to Rule
31A.13(1) – "ships operating in the unlimited area must
carry at least:

(a) the navigational watchkeepers specified in table 2;
and
(b) the engine room watchkeepers specified in table 3;
and
(c) a cook", when operational in port, subject to the
following conditions:

  1. Minimum manning when operational in port shall
    be:

3rd or 4th Engineer MEC 3 1

  1. The master must make reference to and
    implement Silver Fern Shipping Limited "Ship’s
    personnel on board procedure" and "Masters
    standing orders for operations in port" before
    reducing the manning to that shown in this
    exemption.

Notice of Exemption From Maritime Rule 45.4(1)
and (2)

I, John Norman Keith Mansell, General Manager Maritime
Operations, Maritime New Zealand, being satisfied that the
granting of this exemption will not breach New Zealand’s
international obligations, and pursuant to sections 47(2)(b)(ii),
47(2)(b)(iv) and section 47(2)(c) of the Maritime Transport
Act 1994, acting under delegated authority hereby give notice
as follows:

The owner and master of M/V Aratere (IMO 9174828)
is exempt from the requirement in Rule 45.4(1) and
45.4(2) of Part 45 of the Maritime Rules in relation to
Rule 45.10(1)(a) – "a ship of 10,000 GRT or more is
to be fitted with two radar installations each capable
of operating independently of each other", subject to
the following conditions:

  1. Actions must be taken to ensure the ship complies
    with Maritime Rules 45.10(1)(a) at the owner’s
    earlieset convenience and not later than 10 February
    2007;
  2. One 10cm radar must be fitted, be fully operational at
    all times during a voyage and meet the performance
    standards as set out in IMO resolution A.477(XII);
  3. The electronic charting system fitted must be fully
    operational at all times during a voyage;
  4. AIS system fitted must be fully operational at all
    times during a voyage; and
  5. Information displayed on the 10cm radar screen must
    be closely monitored during a voyage for the purpose
    of minimising the risk of collisions.

The exemption from the provisions of Maritime Rule
45.4(1) and (2) shall remain in force until:

(a) one or more of the above conditions is not met;
(b) the ship undergoes major alteration or its operating
limits are permanently changed;
(c) the ownership of the ship is changed;
(d) the exemption is revoked by the Director of
Maritime New Zealand; or
(e) the expiry date;
whichever occurs first.

This exemption shall expire on 10 February 2007 at 9.00am.
