HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCES (GROUP STANDARDS) NOTICE 2006

Pursuant to section 96B of the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996 (the Act) the Environmental Risk Management Authority (the Authority), on its own initiative, issues these Group Standards.

1 Citation

This document shall be cited as the Hazardous Substances (Group Standards) Notice 2006 (Supplement to the New Zealand Gazette, Issue No. 74).

2 Commencement

These Group Standards come into force on 1 July 2006.

3 Background

The purpose of the Act is to protect the environment, and the health and safety of people and communities, by preventing or managing the adverse effects of hazardous substances and new organisms.

Part 6A of the Act enables the Authority to issue Group Standards. A Group Standard is an approval under the Act for a group of hazardous substances that are of a similar nature or type, or which have similar circumstances of use, such that the risks of the substances can be effectively managed by one set of conditions.

4 Group Standards issued

In this Supplement, notice is given by the Authority of the issuing of Group Standards for:

additives, process chemicals and raw materials
aerosols
animal nutritional and animal care products
class 4 substances
class 5 substances
cleaning products, including industrial and institutional cleaning products
compressed gas mixtures
construction products
corrosion inhibitors
cosmetic products
denatured ethanol
dental products
embalming products
fertilisers
fire fighting chemicals
food additives and fragrance materials
fuel additives
laboratory chemicals and reagent kits
leather and textile products
lubricants
metal industry products
N.O.S. (not otherwise specified)
