Marine Mammals Protection Act 1978

Application to Export Marine Mammals

Pursuant to section 5 of the Marine Mammals Protection Act 1978, the Director-General of Conservation notifies that an application was received from Dr Padraig Duignan and Aurelie Castinel on 7 February 2006 to:

• export 25 tissue samples from New Zealand sea lions (Phocarctos hookeri) to the Institute of Zoology, England, for the purpose of immune response research.

All samples were collected from animals that died of natural causes on the Auckland Islands.
