Education Act 1989

Te Kura Kaupapa Māori ki Te Hurunga-te-rangi, Rotorua, Establishment

Pursuant to sections 146 and 155 of the Education Act 1989, the Minister of Education hereby gives the following notice.

Notice

  1. This notice may be cited as Te Kura Kaupapa Māori ki Te Hurunga-te-rangi, Rotorua, Establishment.
  2. This notice shall come into force the day after its publication in the New Zealand Gazette.
  3. I hereby establish in Rotorua a full primary school called Te Kura Kaupapa Māori ki Te Hurunga-te-rangi and designate the school as a Kura Kaupapa Māori.
  4. The school will operate in accordance with Te Aho Matua.
  5. The special characteristics of Te Kura Kaupapa Māori ki Te Hurunga-te-rangi are:

The whānau of Te Kura Kaupapa Māori ki Te Hurunga-te-rangi commit totally to the guiding principles outlined in Te Aho Matua that:

  • the paramount purpose of Te Kura Kaupapa Māori ki Te Hurunga-te-rangi is the needs of tamariki and their learning;
  • all tamariki enjoy an education that respects their tino rangatiratanga, dignity, rights and individuality;
  • the whānau undertakes to educate its tamariki through Te Reo Māori total immersion as a medium of instruction;
  • tamariki develop sensitivity and respect for others; and
  • this education challenges them to reach their full potential in the pursuit of excellence.
  1. Constitution of the Establishment Board of Trustees
    The Board of Trustees of Te Kura Kaupapa Māori ki Te Hurunga-te-rangi shall comprise:

(a) five people appointed by the Minister;
(b) the principal or principal designate; and
(c) not more than four people co-opted by the board.

Explanatory Note

This note is not part of the notice but is intended to indicate its general effect.
The school will become operational on 1 January 2007. The present kura teina, Te Kura Kaupapa Māori ki Te Hurunga-te-rangi, will cease to exist from that date.
