Notice of Replacement Scopes of Practice and Prescribed Qualifications

Issued by the Dental Council, pursuant to sections 11 and 12 of the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003, the following scopes replace the Scope for Stainless Steel Crowns in Dental Therapy Practice and the Scope for Administering Local Anaesthetic in Dental Hygiene Practice in the Supplement to the New Zealand Gazette, 20 May 2005, No. 81, page 1927.

"Scope for Stainless Steel Crowns in Dental Therapy Practice"

Preparing teeth for, and placing stainless steel crowns on primary teeth.

Prescribed Qualifications

  • Certificate in Dental Therapy (issued by the Department of Health or a New Zealand educational institution); registration in the Scope of General Dental Therapy practice; approved experience in the provision of dental therapy services within the Scope of Dental Therapy Practice; and evidence of successful completion of the University of Otago or AUT or Waitemata(^1) training module in stainless steel crowns; or
  • Diploma in Dental Therapy (issued by a New Zealand educational institution); registration in the Scope of General Dental Therapy practice and evidence of successful completion of the University of Otago or

AUT or Waitemata(^1) training module in stainless steel crowns; or

  • Diploma in Dental Therapy, University of Otago and registration in the Scope of General Dental Therapy practice; or
  • Bachelor of Health Sciences (Endorsement in Dental Therapy), University of Otago and registration in the Scope of General Dental Therapy practice; or
  • Bachelor of Health Science (Oral Health), Auckland University of Technology and registration in the Scope of General Dental Therapy practice.

(^1)Following an accreditation review, the Waitemata training module in stainless steel crowns has been added to the prescribed qualifications.

"Scope for Administering Local Anaesthetic in Dental Hygiene Practice"

Administration of local anaesthetic using dentoalveolar infiltration and inferior dental nerve block techniques under the direct clinical supervision of a dentist or specialist who is present on the premises at which the work is carried out.

Prescribed Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Health Science (Endorsement in Dental Hygiene), University of Otago and registration in the Scope of Dental Hygiene Practice; or
  • Approved experience in the provision of local anaesthetic within the general dental therapy or general dental scope of practice and registration in the Scope of Dental Hygiene Practice; or
  • Completion of the Auckland University of Technology Local Anaesthesia Course for Dental Hygienists and registration in the Scope of Dental Hygiene Practice(^1); or
  • An approved Local Anaesthetic training course and registration in the Scope of Dental Hygiene Practice.

(^1)Following an accreditation review, the AUT Local Anaesthesia Course for Dental Hygienists has been added to the prescribed qualifications.

Commodity Levies (Fish) Order 2002

Notification of Rates of Levy Under Commodity Levies (Fish) Order 2002

Pursuant to the Commodity Levies (Fish) Order 2002 ("the Order") and the Constitution of the New Zealand Seafood Industry Council Limited (SeaFIC), SeaFIC hereby gives notice that:

(a) the Total Total Levy Rates listed in column 8 of Schedule 1 below are the rates of levy levied on fish, required to be notified in terms of clauses 9 and 11 of the Order, for the levy year 1 October 2005 to 30 September 2006 (inclusive); and

(b) the Core Services Levy Rates, the Stock Specific Levy Rates and the Total Levy Rates in columns 3, 5 and 8 of Schedule 1 are the rates required to be notified in terms of clause 5.1 of the Fifth Schedule to SeaFIC’s Constitution for the levy year 1 October 2005 to 30 September 2006 (inclusive).
