Notice of Final Decisions to Assign Place Names in the Ross Sea Region, Antarctica

Pursuant to the New Zealand Geographic Board Act 1946, notice is hereby given of the final decisions of the New Zealand Geographic Board Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa to assign the names stated in the first column of the Schedule below to the places described in the second column of the said Schedule and that such decisions took effect on the dates shown.

71°18'S Latitude, 170°11'E Longitude. The west point of the cuspate Ridley Beach, 1.5km south-west of Cape Adare, Adare Peninsula, in north-east Victoria Land.

31 May 1999:

Colleen, Lake
78°02'S Latitude, 163°52'E Longitude. An elliptical lake 1km long and 0.5km wide, between the Garwood and Joyce Glaciers.

21 October 1999:

Lane Plateau
84°23'S Latitude, 175°26'E Longitude. A flat, ice-covered plateau that rises to 3000m between Mount Waterman, Mount Cartwright and Mount Bronk in the central Hughes Range of the Queen Maud Mountains. The plateau trends north-south for 15km and is 4km wide.

Ainley Peak
77°30'S Latitude, 169°02'E Longitude. A prominent peak (1240m) located 5km south-west of Post Office Hill in east Ross Island.

Anne Hill
78°14'S Latitude, 162°43'E Longitude. The most prominent hill on Radian Ridge in Royal Society Range, Victoria Land. It rises to 2079m at the east side of Lava Tongue Pass.

Anniversary Bluff
78°33'S Latitude, 164°15'E Longitude. A rock bluff 2.5km west of Birthday Bluffs on the south side of Mason Spur, Scott Coast, Victoria Land. The bluff rises to c. 1300m.

Belgrave, Mount
76°36'S Latitude, 162°01'E Longitude. A prominent rock summit that rises over 1200m about 2.5km west of Mount Creak. The feature overlooks the north side of Fry Glacier at the south extremity of Kirkwood Range.

Bellafronto Bight
78°13'S Latitude, 165°06'E Longitude. An ice-filled embayment between the base of the west side of Brown Peninsula and the low north-west foot of Mount Discovery, on Scott Coast, Victoria Land. The bight extends south-west/north-east for 10km from Hahn Island to Swyers Point.

Birthday Bluffs
78°33'S Latitude, 164°22'E Longitude. Rock bluffs that rise to 1296m between Anniversary Bluff and Windscoop Bluff on the south side of Mason Spur, Scott Coast, Victoria Land.

Boney Point
76°39'S Latitude, 162°43'E Longitude. A rock point along the south side of the entrance to Tripp Bay in Victoria Land.

Brough Nunatak
76°31'S Latitude, 162°27'E Longitude. A nunatak in the north-west part of Evans Piedmont Glacier, 6.5km west south-west of Boney Point, Victoria Land.
