Notice of Intention to Take Land for Road

Widening—162 Greenlane East, Auckland

Notice is hereby given that Auckland City Council ("the council"), under the provisions of section 23 of the Public Works Act 1981, proposes to take land described in the Schedule hereto ("the land").

The land is required for roading purposes. It is intended to use the land for road widening. The intended taking is considered reasonably necessary for:

  • improving traffic efficiency and safety;
  • improving traffic management of the Greenlane motorway connection;
  • increasing reliability of bus services;
  • improving pedestrian and cycle amenity and safety; and
  • upgrading landscapes and streetscapes.

The above-mentioned improvements are consistent with the New Zealand Transport Strategy which has the following five principal objectives:

(a) to assist economic development;
(b) to assist safety and personal security;
(c) to improve access and mobility;
(d) to protect and promote public health; and
(e) to ensure environmental sustainability.

The land use is in accordance with designation E10-07 of the council’s district plan.

The council already owns all other land needed for the improvements.

The proposed improvements on Greenlane East complement proposed widening of Greenland West and Great South Road to the east and the council considers there are no other suitable or better alternative sites, routes or other methods of achieving the above improvements and objectives.

The owners of the land and those persons with a registered interest in it have been served with notice of the council’s intention to take the land and advised of their right to object.
