NZ1 General

NZ1.1 Introduction

The Casino Control Authority (“Authority”) has adopted the Australian/New Zealand Gaming Machine National Standard (“National Standard”) as its core requirement for gaming machine equipment to be operated in New Zealand casinos.

Chapter 8 of the National Standard identifies the Authority’s position in respect of those requirements that have not yet been standardised. The chapter also sets out various parameters and values specific to New Zealand casinos.

This Appendix identifies any additional requirements that the Authority has for gaming machines operating in New Zealand casinos. Such requirements have been referenced back to the applicable section of the National Standard. The Appendix also serves to clarify the Authority’s position in respect of issues contained in the National Standard that require jurisdictional clarification.

The Authority’s requirements in respect of all other casino gaming equipment are contained in the Gaming and Monitoring Equipment Standards (“GAMES”).

NZ1.2 Adoption of Standard

The National Standard takes effect from the date of publication in the New Zealand Gazette. As noted in the main body of the National Standard, a grace period of six months will apply before any new requirements not previously identified in GAMES come into force.

NZ1.3 Equipment Testing and Approval

Submissions

Gaming machines shall not be operated in any casino unless first approved by the Authority. Submission requirements are identified in the National Standard. Submissions may be forwarded direct to any of the Authority’s accredited testing agencies.

Costs

The Authority will determine the suitability or otherwise of the equipment based on the recommendations of the test laboratory that has undertaken the evaluation. The Authority is not responsible for any costs associated with the testing of equipment.

Modifications

All modifications to approved gaming machines will require the Authority’s approval. In the case of minor hardware or artwork modifications, a supplier may apply directly to the Authority for approval rather than making submissions to a testing agency. The Authority will deal with any such applications on their merits.
