moana extends seaward to the limit of the South Island fisheries waters as defined in Regulation 2 of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1998, being the exclusive economic zone. The area/rohe moana includes South Island waters about and within Rakiura (Stewart Island) and other offshore islands situated within the exclusive economic zone. The inland boundaries of the area/rohe moana are those defined for Te Rūnaka o Awarua, Te Rūnaka o Oraka Aparima, Hokonui Rūnaka and Waihopai Rūnaka under the First Schedule of Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu Act 1996. This area/rohe moana will hereafter be referred to as “Piopiotahi to Tokatā”.

Cancellation of Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki—Hokonui Rūnaka, being the Tangata whenua who nominated Hine Maaka as Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the area/rohe moana of Piopiotahi to Tokatā, have requested in writing the cancellation of appointment of Hine Maaka as Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the area/rohe moana.
Cancellation of appointment—The Associate Minister of Fisheries hereby confirms the cancellation of Hine Maaka as Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for managing customary food gathering for the area/rohe moana of Piopiotahi to Tokatā.
Nomination of Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki—Hokonui Rūnaka, being the Tangata Whenua holding manawhenua manamoana over the area/rohe moana, have nominated Taare Hikurangi Bradshaw, Rodney Richard Trainor and Kimiora Moananui as Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the area/rohe moana of Piopiotahi to Tokatā.
Appointment of Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki—The Associate Minister of Fisheries hereby confirms the appointments of Taare Hikurangi Bradshaw, Rodney Richard Trainor and Kimiora Moananui as Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for managing customary food gathering for the area/rohe moana of Piopiotahi to Tokatā. The appointments are for a term of five years commencing the day this notice comes into effect.
Power to authorise taking of fisheries resources for customary food gathering—The Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki may authorise any individual to take fisheries resources managed under the Fisheries Acts 1983 and 1996 for customary food gathering purposes from within the whole or any part of the area/rohe moana. No customary food gathering of fisheries resources may take place in the area/rohe moana without authorisation of a Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki.
