Bylaw

Title and commencement—This bylaw may be cited as the Transit New Zealand (Speed of Vehicles on State Highways) Bylaw 2003/11 and shall come into force 28 days after its publication in the New Zealand Gazette.

Interpretation—In this bylaw:
“vehicle” has the same meaning as in the Transport Act 1962. -
Limiting speed of vehicles on State highways—No person shall drive or take or permit to be driven or taken any vehicle:
(a) at a speed exceeding 30 kilometres per hour on the sections of State highway described in the First Schedule to this bylaw; or
(b) at a speed exceeding 60 kilometres per hour on the sections of State highway described in the Second Schedule to this bylaw; or
(c) at a speed exceeding 80 kilometres per hour on the sections of State highway described in the Third Schedule to this bylaw.
First Schedule
- The section of State Highway No. 94 at Milford Sound/Piopiotahi, from a point 50 metres generally east of the access road to the airport and extending 900 metres generally north to the end of the State highway (Route Position 241/16.50 to Route Position 241/17.40); a distance of 900 metres.
Second Schedule

The section of State Highway No. 1 that is:
(a) At Hampden, from a point 180 metres generally north of Monmouth Street to a point 30 metres generally south of Nottingham Street (Route Position 618/7.54 to Route Position 618/8.47); a distance of 930 metres.
(b) At Dunedin, from a point at the junction of Cumberland Street (State Highway No. 1) and Water Street to a point at the junction at the junction of Andersons Bay Road (State Highway No. 1) with the Caversham Bypass Motorway (State Highway No. 1) (Route Position 706/0.64 to Route Position 707/0.00); a distance of 1.1 kilometres. -
The section of State Highway No. 6 at Frankton, from a point 370 metres generally east of its junction with Frankton Road (State Highway No. 6A) to a point 150 metres generally south of its junction with Frankton Road (State Highway No. 6A) (Route Position 983/11.55 to Route Position 996/0.15); a distance of 520 metres.

The section of State Highway No. 6A at Frankton, from its junction with Kawarau Road (State Highway No. 6) to a point 150 metres generally west of Marina Drive (Route Position 0/0.00 to Route Position 0/1.32); a distance of 1.32 kilometres.
Third Schedule
- The section of State Highway No. 1 that is:
(a) At Hampden, from a point 50 metres generally north of Lancaster Street to a point 180 metres generally north of Monmouth Street (Route Position 618/7.06 to Route Position 618/7.54); a distance of 480 metres.
(b) At Hampden, from a point 30 metres generally south of Nottingham Street to a point 200 metres generally south of Oakham Street (Route Position 618/8.47 to Route Position 618/9.01); a distance of 540 metres.
(c) At Pukerau, from a point 400 metres generally east of Kaiwera Road to a point 50 metres generally west of West Street (Route Position 842/2.03 to Route Position 842/3.37); a distance of 1.34 kilometres.
