Medical Practitioners Who May Prescribe,

Administer, or Supply Controlled Drugs
for the Purpose of Treating People With
Drug Dependence

Pursuant to section 24 (5) (a) of the Misuse of Drugs Act
1975, I, David George Chaplow, acting under delegated
authority from the Minister of Health, specify that:

Dr Sophia Harris, 687 Ferry Road, Woolston,
Christchurch

is a medical practitioner who may prescribe, administer, or
supply controlled drugs for the purposes of that section, with
the following conditions:

(a) Dr Harris’ prescribing of controlled drugs for the
treatment of opioid dependence is limited to
methadone;

(b) The prescription of methadone for the treatment
of dependence is limited to patients registered at
Dr Harris’ practice who have been assessed
as requiring methadone treatment for opioid
dependence by a gazetted methadone service; and

(c) Dr Harris’ authorisation of other medical
practitioners to prescribe controlled drugs for
the treatment of opioid dependence is limited
to designated locums working in her practice. Those
medical practitioners authorised by Dr Harris
may only prescribe controlled drugs for the
treatment of opioid dependence to patients registered
at Dr Harris’ practice and may only do so with
Dr Harris’ written permission.\nDated at Wellington this 24th day of July 2002.

Council, and on the recommendation of the Minister of
Internal Affairs, acting with the concurrence of the Minister
of Women’s Affairs and the Minister of Justice, hereby
appoint

William Kenneth Hastings

to be the Chief Censor of Film and Literature for a period of
one year commencing on 18 October 2002.

Acting District Court Judge Appointed

Pursuant to section 10A of the District Courts Act 1947, and
section 7 of the Family Courts Act 1980, Her Excellency
the Governor-General has been pleased to appoint

Peter John McAloon, retired District Court Judge

to be an Acting District Court Judge, to exercise civil and
criminal jurisdiction in New Zealand, at such place or places
and for such period or periods only as the Chief District
Court Judge may fix, pursuant to the said section 10A of
the District Courts Act 1947, and also to exercise the
jurisdiction of the Family Courts, pursuant to section 7 of
the Family Courts Act 1980, for a term of two years on and
from 1 August 2002.
