NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE

Declaring Land to be Held for Conservation Purposes as Ecological Areas and to be Part of Existing Ecological Areas

Under section 8 (1) (a) of the Forests (West Coast Accord) Act 2000, the Minister of Finance and the Minister for State-Owned Enterprises jointly declare that the land described in the Schedule is held under the Conservation Act 1987, for conservation purposes and as ecological areas, subject to that Act and to be part of the ecological areas named in the schedule, to be managed to protect the scientific values specified in this notice.

Schedule

Nelson Land District—Buller District

Addition to Radcliffe Ecological Area—
To protect the northern and western ranges of the land snail Powelliphanta lignaria johnstoni and the northern range of the land snail Powelliphanta lignaria rotella.
1151.6030 hectares, being Sections 1 and 3, S.O. 15021.

Westland Land District—Grey District

Addition to Ahaura Terraces Ecological Area—
To complement the terrace forests, representative forest types and wildlife habitat protected within that area.
452.9600 hectares, being Sections 2, 3, 4 and 5, S.O. 12136.

Addition to Lake Hochstetter Ecological Area—
To complement the terrace forests and the transition between podocarp-beech and podocarp hardwood forests protected within that area.
355.0000 hectares, being Section 2, S.O. 12149.

Addition to Bywash Pakihi Ecological Area—
To complement and protect the forest, shrubland and pakihi protected within that ecological area.
604.4000 hectares, being Section 1, S.O. 12669 (formerly part Section 3, S.O. 12149).

Addition to Flagstaff Ecological Area—
To complement and protect the catchment of Flagstaff Ecological Area.
2869.8000 hectares, being Section 2, S.O. 12669 (formerly part Section 3, S.O. 12149).

Addition to Deadman Ecological Area—
To buffer the forest remnants protected within that area.
10.4130 hectares, being Section 3, S.O. 12668 (formerly part Section 1, S.O. 12112).

Addition to Deep Creek Ecological Area—
To complement and buffer the distributional limit of beech forest protected within that area.
326.6900 hectares, being Sections 4 and 5, S.O. 12668 (formerly parts Section 1, S.O. 12112).

Addition to Moonlight Ecological Area—
To complement the lowland terrace forest and pakihi ecosystems protected within that area.
239.0900 hectares, being Section 2, S.O. 12665 (formerly part Section 1, S.O. 12158).

Addition to Three Mile Hill Ecological Area—
To complement the regenerating forest and representative soil sequence protected within that area.
123.2500 hectares, being Section 3, S.O. 12048.

Addition to Card Creek Ecological Area—
To complement the forest and wildlife habitat protected within that area.
747.5473 hectares, being Sections 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8 and 12 S.O. 12145 and Section 5, S.O. 12145.

Ecological areas are held for conservation purposes to protect indigenous intrinsic natural values and resources, ecological and evolutionary systems and in particular to protect values of scientific interest.

HER EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL IN COUNCIL

Pursuant to Section 11 of the Housing Act 1955, Her Excellency the Governor-General acting with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, hereby declares that the access-way described in the Schedule hereto shall, as from the 28th day after the publication of this Order in Council in the New Zealand Gazette, vest in the City of Christchurch and be under the control and management of the City of Christchurch.

Schedule

Canterbury Land District
0.0197 hectares, Lot 988, D.P. 23893 being part Rural Section 7026.
The said parcel of land being situated in the City of Christchurch.
