Electoral District and Nature of Objection

N33 002 b Objection O M Hargreaves

Similar to N33/001

Suggested solution Keep the province of Taranaki as one piece. This could be done by using the South Taranaki District Council’s boundary as the southern boundary of the Taranaki-King Country electorate. The Whanganui electorate could be extended along the Whanganui River and include the towns of Raetahi, Ohakune and even Taumarunui. Te Awamutu should be left within a Waikato electorate.

N33 003 b Objection M B & H R Hoskin

Similar to N33/001

Suggested solution Divide Taranaki and New Plymouth into two electorates. Increasing the limits on variance from population quota would help.

N33 004 n Objection R P Richardson

Objects to the use of the name ‘Whanganui’ for the proposed electorate given the changes to its boundaries.

Suggested solution Use ‘Whanganui Coastal’ as the electorate name.

Waioeka

N34 001 n Objection H J Kameta

Objects to the use of Waioweka (objector’s spelling) as an electorate name on the grounds that it is an ancestral Taonga Tuku Iho of Ngati Ira of Waioweka Pa.

Suggested solution That Waioweka not be used as an electorate name.

N34 002 n Objection S M de Zouche Dudson

Objects to the name ‘Waioeka’ as it does not encompass all regions within the proposed electorate, and is difficult to spell.

Suggested solution Retain the name ‘East Coast’.

N34 003 n,b Objection K A Richardson

Objects to the inclusion of Whakatane within the proposed Waioeka electorate on the grounds that the proposed electorate is too big to be fairly represented. Also objects to the name ‘Waioeka’ as East Cape/Gisborne has no affiliation with Waioeka.

Suggested solution Similar to N34/002, with the addition that Whakatane be excluded.
