Electoral District and Nature of Objection

b, h

Objection D J Laird

Objects to the proposed boundary for the Hamilton West electorate as there is no allowance for population growth, which raises concerns of voter equity.

Suggested solution Use the 1998 proposed boundary as the southern boundary of Hamilton West. Include the Temple View area within Hamilton West to accommodate its community of interest.

Suggested solution Move the Ngahinapouri, Tuhikaramea and Koromatua areas into Taranaki-King Country. The Horotiu area could be added to Hamilton West, if necessary.

Objection NZ Labour Party

Similar to N28/001

Suggested solution Similar to N28/001.

Semi-rural areas such as Tauriko, Wairoa Pa and Bethlehem could be moved into the Bay of Plenty electorate.

Taranaki–King Country

N31

001

b

Objection L P Hobbs

Objects to the inclusion of Te Awamutu in the proposed Taranaki-King Country electorate on the grounds of community of interest. Te Awamutu’s community of interest lies with the Waikato region, rather than Taranaki.

Suggested solution Divide New Plymouth in two with one half taking in the west and south of Taranaki and the other extending across the National Park area towards Taumarunui and Taihape. The Waipa District towns fit much better with those of the South Waikato District and perhaps the northern Karapiro towns could link with Coromandel.
