Exempted Vehicles

All Mercedes Benz Econic trucks, the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) of which starts with nine characters falling into the range of WDB957540 to WDB957680.

Schedule 2

The Requirement From Which the Vehicles are Exempted

Regulation 2 (4) (b) (ii) of the Goods Service Vehicle (Constructional) Regulations 1936, requiring an audible low air pressure warning device for the air brake system.

Schedule 3

Conditions of the Exemption

(i) The two factory fitted independent visual warning devices of the vehicles to warn the drivers if the air pressure in any of the service brake reservoirs drops below 6.8 bar; or if the air pressure in the parking brake system reservoir drops below 5.5 bar, must always be operable.

(ii) This exemption may be revoked at any time.

Traffic Regulations 1976

Automotive CNG Fuel Cylinder Approvals

Pursuant to Regulation 90B of the Traffic Regulations 1976, and pursuant to the powers delegated to me by the Director of Land Transport Safety, I, John Andrew Justice, Principal Engineer, Safer Vehicles Policy, hereby approve the CNG fuel cylinders in the Schedule hereto for inclusion in any CNG automotive fuel system installed and operated in accordance with the requirements of Australian/New Zealand Standard AS/NZS 2739:1999, subject to the conditions of approval set out in this notice.

This approval only applies to cylinders as specified on the following two drawings:

  • NZ-203-300-890/B Rev.1 (covering models: B 203/12, 14, 15, 17, 20, 22, 24, 25, 27, 28, 30, 35, 39 and 40).
  • NZ-316-300-890/B Rev.1 (covering models: B 316/50, 55, 60, 65, 70, 80, 90, 100, 110 and 120).

Conditions of Approval

These automotive CNG fuel cylinders are approved subject to the following conditions:

  1. That they comply with all the design, performance and test requirements of New Zealand Standard NZS 5454:1989 as applicable to all-metal steel cylinders.

  2. That they be provided with a cylinder shut off valve designed for the cylinder working pressure and compatible with the test pressure of the cylinder. Cylinder shut off valves shall be fitted with a handwheel to facilitate ease of opening and closing of the valve and shall be fitted with a pressure relief device, which remains in contact with the gas contained in the cylinder whether the handwheel is in the open or closed position, comprising a burst disc backed with a fusible alloy plug having a nominal melt temperature of 100°C. Should the alloy plug melt, the burst disc shall yield at a pressure of not less than 24.7 MPa and not more than 30.0 MPa, otherwise it shall remain inoperative. Cylinder valves shall be provided with an outlet thread of ¼” NPT (female) and a stem thread compatible with the cylinder neck thread.

  3. That they are tested at periods not exceeding 5 years, in accordance with the requirements of Australian Standard AS 2337.1.

  4. Cylinder markings are in accordance with section 9 of New Zealand Standard NZS 5454:1989.

  5. Neck threads are in accordance with section 5 (5.3) of New Zealand Standard NZS 5454:1989.

Warning Traffic Signs—Steep Grade and Speed Limit Ahead

Pursuant to section 129 (6) of the Traffic Regulations 1976, and pursuant to a subdelegation from the Director of Land Transport Safety by an instrument dated 3 May 1999, I, Robert Albert Gibson, Senior Engineer Safer Roads, hereby authorise the erection, installation and maintenance of the warning traffic signs described in the Schedule to this notice for the purposes of Regulation 128 (4) of the Traffic Regulations 1976.

General Description of Signs

The warning signs must conform to the layouts of the example signs depicted in the diagrams below and be in accordance with the following specifications.

  1. Background colour—Yellow reflectorised.

  2. Border—Black.
