Education Act 1989

Amendment to the Constitution of Auckland University of Technology

Pursuant to section 170 of the Education Act 1989, the Associate Minister of Education (Tertiary Education) hereby gives the following notice.

Notice

  1. (1) This notice may be cited as the Constitution of the Council of the Auckland University of Technology.

(2) This notice comes into force on 1 January 2002.

  1. The Council of the Auckland University of Technology shall comprise:

(a) Four members appointed by the Minister of Education.

(b) The Chief Executive Officer of the Auckland University of Technology.

(c) One permanent member of the academic staff of the Auckland University of Technology elected by the permanent members of that staff.

(d) After 1 January 2004, one member appointed by the Auckland University of Technology Council after consultation with, and from the nominations of, members of the Auckland University of Technology Academic Board.

(e) One permanent member of the general staff of the Auckland University of Technology elected by the permanent members of that staff.

(f) Until 1 January 2004, one member who is or has been a student of the Auckland University of Technology who shall represent the students of the Auckland University of Technology and who shall be appointed by the association of students recognised by the Council of the Auckland University of Technology in accordance with the constitution or rules of the association.

(g) After 1 January 2004, two members who are or have been students of the Auckland University of Technology who shall represent the students of the Auckland University of Technology and who shall be appointed by the association of students recognised by the Council of the Auckland University of Technology in accordance with the constitution or rules of the association.

(h) One member appointed by the Auckland University of Technology Council after consultation with the central organisation of employers within the meaning of the Labour Relations Act 1987.

(i) One member appointed by the Auckland University of Technology Council after consultation with the central organisation of employees within the meaning of the Labour Relations Act 1987.

(j) One member appointed by the Auckland University of Technology Council after consultation with, and from the nominations of the Auckland District Maori Council.

(k) One member appointed by the Auckland University of Technology Council after consultation with, and from the nominations of the local Iwi.

(l) After 1 January 2004, one member appointed by the Auckland University of Technology Council after consultation with, and from the nominations of, the Auckland University of Technology Alumni Association Incorporated.

(m) One member appointed by the Auckland University of Technology Council after consultation with Pacific Island organisations and communities of New Zealand.

(n) Until 1 January 2004, up to seven members, to be co-opted by the Auckland University of Technology Council, as it determines, to better:
