Explanatory Note:
This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This notice, which comes into force on 1 October 2001, sets total allowable commercial catches (TACCs) for certain fishstocks as follows:

  • The TACC for alfonsino in area 1 is increased from 31 tonnes to 300 tonnes.
  • The TACC for bluenose in area 3 is increased from 357 tonnes to 925 tonnes.
  • The TACC for elephant fish in area 5 is increased from 71 tonnes to 100 tonnes.
  • The TACC for gemfish in area 1 is reduced from 460 tonnes to 210 tonnes.
  • The TACC for gemfish in area 2 is reduced from 520 tonnes to 240 tonnes.
  • The TACC for hoki in area 1 is reduced from 250 000 tonnes to 200 000 tonnes.
  • The TACC for orange roughy in area 1 is increased from 800 tonnes to 1 400 tonnes.
  • The TACC for orange roughy in area 7B is reduced from 430 tonnes to 110 tonnes.
  • The TACC for oreo in area 3A is reduced from 4 400 tonnes to 3 900 tonnes.
  • The TACC for oreo in area 4 is reduced from 7000 tonnes to 5200 tonnes.
  • The TACC for paua in area 7 is reduced from 267.48 tonnes to 240.73 tonnes.
  • The TACC for sea perch in area 3 is increased from 738 tonnes to 1 000 tonnes.
  • For the period 1 October 2001 to 31 January 2002, the TACC for freshwater eels in area ANG 13 is reduced from 121.93 tonnes to 78 tonnes.
  • From 1 February 2002, the TACC for freshwater eels in area ANG 13 is increased from 78 tonnes to 121.93 tonnes.

Fisheries (Kaimoana Customary Fishing) Notice

Pursuant to Regulation 9 (2) of the Fisheries (Kaimoana Customary Fishing) Regulations 1998, the Manager Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries (acting pursuant to a delegated authority in accordance with section 41 of the State Sector Act 1988), hereby gives the following notice.

Notice

  1. Title and commencement—(1) This notice may be cited as the Fisheries (Kaimoana Customary Fishing) Notice (No. 7) 2001.

(2) This notice shall come into effect the day after the date of its notification in the New Zealand Gazette.

  1. Interpretation—In this notice:

(a) The term “Te Mahi Kaimoana” has the same meaning as “customary food gathering” as defined in the Fisheries (Kaimoana Customary Fishing) Regulations 1998.
