Any sample collection and sample analysis equipment approved by the International Dairy Federation (IDF) and/or the International Committee for Animal Recording (ICAR) is also approved for use within New Zealand.
The endorsement of equipment that meets IDF and/or ICAR standards does not preclude different standards for New Zealand.
APPENDIX II
RECORD FORMATS
The following is the list of record formats approved by the database manager (ref 1.2) as at 1 June 1998.
Note: Where the contents of a text field do not fill the field, spaces are leading.
All numeric fields are left zero filled.
Null value for all text fields is spaces, null value for all numeric fields is zero.
FARM LOCATION:
Type Text Length 10
Map reference of farm entrance from New Zealand map series and contains map sheet number and East and North grid references to a tenth of a division.
HERD NUMBER:
Type Numeric Length 2
The number of a herd within a location. At any one location there may be 0 1 or more herds.
Each herd is a distinct business unit. An animal may belong to only one herd at any one time.
PARTICIPANT CODE:
Type Text Length 4
The code assigned to each person or business unit owning or having contractual rights to a herd under test.
“NEW COW” INDICATOR
Type Text Length 1
An indicator showing whether the details in this record should be added to those already recorded for an animal on the Database, or a set of records should be created on the Database to accommodate a previously unrecorded animal.
Blank This animal is already recorded on the Database.
1 This animal has no information currently recorded on the Database.

Code allocated by LIC to uniquely identify all bulls used in AB. Also used for grade bulls born prior to 1985.
LIVESTOCK IMPROVEMENT ASSOCIATION (LIA) IDENTIFICATION (USED ONLY FOR ANIMALS BORN PRIOR TO 1985):

These records are provided and controlled by the Breeds Societies who are participating members in the database.

Number recorded in a herdbook of a New Zealand Pedigree Breed Society.
Breed Society:

Code identifying the herdbook to which the herdbook number refers.
