Declaration of a mātaitai reserve—The area/rohe moana at Koukourārata (Port Levy), Banks Peninsula, is hereby declared a mātaitai reserve.

Commercial fishing prohibited area—Commercial fishing within the above area is hereby prohibited under Regulation 24 of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999.

Power to authorise taking of fisheries resources for customary food gathering—The Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki may authorise any individual to take fisheries resources managed under the Fisheries Acts 1983 and 1996 for customary food gathering purposes from within the whole or any part of the area/rohe moana.
No customary food gathering of fisheries resources may take place in the area/rohe moana without authorisation from the Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki.

Fisheries (Notification of Mātaitai Reserve and Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki) Notice 2000 (No. F168)
Pursuant to Regulation 22 of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999, the chief executive of the Ministry of Fisheries hereby gives the following notice.

Title and commencement—(1) This notice may be cited as the Fisheries (Notification of Mātaitai Reserve and Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki) Notice 2000.
(2) This notice shall come into effect on 15 December 2000. -
Interpretation—In this notice:
(a) The term “mātaitai reserve” has the same meaning as defined in the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999.
(b) Any reference to “Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki” means any person or persons appointed as Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the mātaitai reserve under the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999.
(c) Any reference to area/rohe moana means the area encompassing those waters in Koukourārata (Port-Levy) Harbour that lie south of a straight line drawn from Te Piaka/Adderley Head (at 43°36.36′S and 172°49.66′E) to Akeake/Baleine Point (at 43°36.33′S and 172°51.19′E). -
Notification of a mātaitai reserve—The Minister of Fisheries declared the area/rohe moana at Koukourārata (Port Levy), Banks Peninsula, a mātaitai reserve by notice in the New Zealand Gazette dated 14 December 2000.

Appointment of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki—The Minister of Fisheries in an instrument dated 12 December 2000 appointed Joe Sour and Tim Manawatu as Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for managing customary food gathering for the area/rohe moana.
The appointment is for a term of 5 years commencing the day that this notice comes into effect.

Food Act 1981
New Zealand Food Standard 1996, Amendment No. 20
Section 11L of the Food Act 1981
Amendment No. 20 to the New Zealand Food Standard 1996, was issued by the Minister of Health on 11 December 2000.
Amendment No. 20 incorporates changes made by Amendment No. 52 to the Australian Food Standards Code (ASFC) into the New Zealand Food Standard 1996.
The Australia New Zealand Food Authority (ANZFA) gazetted Amendment No. 52 in Australia and New Zealand on 7 December 2000.
Amendment No. 20 also incorporates provisions of the Australian Food Standards Code, as incorporated into the New Zealand Food Standard 1996, as alternative to Regulation 264 in the Food Regulations 1984.
Regulation 264 regulates the sale of irradiated food.
The New Zealand Food Standard 1996 and the material incorporated into it by reference, i.e. the AFSC up to and including Amendment No. 52, is available for inspection at the Ministry of Health, 133 Molesworth Street, Wellington, or may be viewed on the Ministry of Health web site: www.moh.govt.nz
