Broken River and its tributaries (incl Winding Creek, Porter River and Slovens Creek) for trout fishing.
4 November until 30 April

The Rakaia River and tributaries in the western zone for trout fishing
1 October to 28 February

The Wilberforce River and tributaries
1 October to 28 February

The Wilberforce Diversion (including the Wilberforce Canal and Oakden Canal)
1 December to 31 March

All rivers and their tributaries flowing into western zone lakes
1 December to 31 March

All other rivers in the western zone for trout fishing
1 October to 30 April

All other rivers in the western zone for salmon fishing
1 October to 28 February

All western zone lakes
4 November until 30 April

2.2 Winter Season

The following waters except within 200m of any inflowing stream

Lake Coleridge
1 June to 31 August

Lake Selfe,
Lake Lyndon,
Lake Pearson,
Lake Taylor,
Lake Sumner,
Loch Katrine,
1 June to 30 September

3. CLOSED WATERS

3.1

No licence holder shall fish for sports fish in the following waters:

Lake Marion

Taylors Drain to its confluence with the Wairarapa Stream.

The Avon River between the Armagh and Barbados Street bridges.

St Annes Lagoon near Cheviot.

The tailrace of the Highbank Power Station.

Within 100 metres of the outfall of any licenced fish farm.

The Kowai River and its tributaries including Hacketts Creek are closed to salmon fishing from March 1 to September 30.

4. AUTHORISED TACKLE

4.1

No licence holder when fishing for sports fish shall:

4.1.1 Use any unsportsmanlike device or method.

4.1.2 Use any artificial fly having more than one hook or having a multiple hook in Fly fishing Only Waters.

4.1.3 Use more than two hooks when fishing for salmon with natural bait.

4.2 When playing a sports fish a gaff may be used to assist in the landing of that fish.
