The following material is approved for use for traffic signs mounted on vehicles which are covered by any operating requirements, general permits or any specific or special over dimension permits set by the Land Transport Safety Authority:
3M™ Diamond Grade™ LDP material: Fluorescent yellow-green reflective sheeting (3963).
Stimsonite® Class 1A fluorescent yellow-green.
The following notice issued pursuant to regulation 130(1) of the Traffic Regulations 1976 is hereby revoked:

Traffic Signs—Temporary Warning and Vehicle Mounted Signs
Pursuant to regulation 129(6) of the Traffic Regulations 1976, and pursuant to a sub-delegation from the Director of Land Transport Safety by an instrument dated 3 May 1999, I, John Paul Edgar, Manager Safer Roads:
(a) Approve the erection and maintenance of the Traffic Signs described in the Schedule to this notice for the temporary control of traffic by a person authorised by regulation 124 of the Traffic Regulations 1976;
(b) Revoke the “Experimental Traffic Signs—Temporary Warning Signs” notice dated 16 November 1994 *.
Schedule
General Descriptions of Traffic Signs
1. Shape and size
Signs in the form of a diamond shall have equal sides at least 750mm long.
Minimum dimensions of rectangular signs are given first by width then height.
The signs shall be in the form described below.
The letter T followed by a number are a reference to the equivalent sign described in the Fourth Schedule to the Traffic Regulations 1976.
The letters TW followed by a number are a reference to the equivalent sign described in the Transit New Zealand/Land Transport Safety Authority publication Manual of Traffic Signs and Markings.
2. Background colour
Unless indicated otherwise, temporary warning signs described in the Fourth Schedule to the Traffic Regulations 1976 as having orange (r) backgrounds and the signs described below may have reflectorised orange or reflectorised fluorescent orange background.
3. Border
The borders are black at least 20mm wide.
4. Legend
Unless indicated otherwise:
– legend shall be black;
– lettering shall conform with Series D as specified in Australian Standard AS1744 Standard alphabets for road signs and be at least 125mm high.
5. Use
Unless indicated otherwise, one, and only one, supplementary sign may be erected below any specified sign.
Temporary Warning Signs
1. T2 “Road Works” supplementary signs
The following supplementary signs may be erected below a T2 “Road Works” (TW-1), diamond-shaped sign:
(a) ON SIDE ROAD (TW-1.5) 950 x 500.
MOWER (TW-1.3) 950 x 300.
PAVEMENT BURNER (TW-1.3) 950 x 500.
ROAD SWEEPER (TW-1.3) 950 x 500.
SKID TESTING (TW-1.3) 950 x 500.
WEED SPRAYER (TW-1.3) 950 x 500.
SHOULDER CLOSED (TW-1.6) 950 x 500.
(b) Temporary speed limit ahead (TW-1B.3) shall have a white reflectorised background. The legend shall include the appropriate speed limit in kilometres an hour in letters at least 250mm high, size 1200 x 600.
2. T2 “Road Works” advance warning signs
“Roadworks” 1km (or 2km) (TW-1B.1) 1200 x 1800.
“Roadworks” 1km (or 2km) DELAYS POSSIBLE (TW-1B.2) 2400 x 1800.
3. T3 “Other Hazards” supplementary signs
The following supplementary signs may be erected below a T3 “Other Hazards” (TW-2) diamond-shaped sign:
LOGGING TRUCKS (TW-2.6) 950 x 500.
TRUCKS CROSSING (TW-2.7) 950 x 500.
NO ROAD MARKING (TW-2.8) 950 x 500.
SIGNALS CHANGED (TW-2.9) 950 x 500.
SIGNALS NOT WORKING (TW-2.10) 950 x 500.
NEW ROAD LAYOUT (TW-2.11) 950 x 500.
CYCLE RACE (TW-2.13) 950 x 300.
ACCIDENT (TW-2.14) 950 x 300.
FIRE (TW-2.15) 950 x 300.
4. Advance distance supplementary sign
The following sign may be erected below any temporary warning sign including any supplementary sign to indicate the distance over which the warning applies beyond the sign:
NEXT x km (TW-1.1) 950 x 300.
5. T4 “Metal Surface” supplementary sign
The following sign may be erected below a T4 “Metal Surface” (TW-5) diamond-shaped sign:
SEAL REPAIRS (TW-5.2) 950 x 500.
