Appointment of Chairman of the Higher Salaries Commission
Pursuant to sections 5 and 6 of the Higher Salaries Commission Act 1977, His Excellency the Governor-General, has appointed
Hutton David Peacock of Wellington
to be chairman of the Higher Salaries Commission for the period commencing on the 10th day of September 1999 and ceasing on the 9th day of September 2002.

Land Transport Act 1998
Notification of Ordinary Rule
Pursuant to section 161 (3) of the Land Transport Act 1998, notification is hereby given of the making of Land Transport Rule: Passenger Service Vehicles 1999, which comes into force on 1 September 1999.
This ordinary rule is available for inspection free of charge at the head office of the Land Transport Safety Authority of New Zealand, 7-27 Waterloo Quay, Wellington, and for purchase in August 1999 from bookshops that sell legislation or direct from Legislation Direct, P.O. Box 12-418, Wellington.

Traffic Regulations 1976
Exemption From Restrictions Relating to the Use of Television Sets in Breakdown Service Vehicles Owned and Operated by the New Zealand Automobile Association Inc.
Pursuant to regulation 90 (1) of the Traffic Regulations 1976, I, Jörg Simon Mager, Senior Engineer, hereby exempt breakdown service vehicles owned and operated by the New Zealand Automobile Association Inc. from the requirements of regulation 79 (1)(b) and 79 (2) of the Traffic Regulations 1976, subject to the conditions specified in Schedule 1 of this notice.
Schedule 1
Conditions
(i) This exemption only applies in respect of the fitting of a mobile data terminal, model Datalink MDT2000, used for dispatch purposes;
(ii) The data terminal and associated equipment must be installed and maintained so that the likelihood of injury to occupants is minimised;
(iii) The data terminal must not be used by the driver in traffic conditions where it is not safe to do so;
(iv) This exemption may be revoked at any time.

Exemption From Specified Requirements of the Traffic Regulations 1976
Pursuant to regulation 90 (1) of the Traffic Regulations 1976, I, Barry Edward Crocker, Vehicle Compliance Officer, hereby exempt the motor vehicle specified in Schedule 1 of this notice from the requirements of the Traffic Regulations 1976 listed in Schedule 2, subject to the conditions specified in Schedule 3.

(a) The vehicle remains in the possession of the Christchurch International Airport Company, Antarctic Centre Division.
(b) Operating in the immediate vicinity of the Christchurch International Airport travelling along the following defined route:
Departing from the Antarctic Centre along Orchard Road to Wairakei Road, onto the Airport Tarmac returning along Wairakei Road, Orchard Road to the start point at the Antarctic Centre.
(ii) This exemption is not transferable and will be automatically revoked on the sale or change of ownership or operation of this vehicle.
(iii) This exemption may be revoked at any time;
